I have been looking to get into reloading for a while now, when I saw this in the Cabelas catalog:

Can anyone explain how this kit works without any type of press device? It seems like a good way of testing the waters in reloading without dumping a ton of money into it. The description leaves a little to be desired, does it have all the basics needed?

yup you use a hammer , uh , dont buy that, i can bet in a week after owning that you will either upgrade to a press or give up reloading all together. If you want a cheap method of getting into reloading i would recommended you buy the lee load all shotshell press ( you have a shotgun right ?) That press has everything you need to load shotshell and cost 40 bucks brand new.So its alittle more , but is all around a decent setup.

Shotshell reloading is easy. Probably the most simple and enjoyable reloading experience you will have. The lee load all has got everything you need except components. Shot wads and hulls are cheap. If your not interested in shotshell i recommend buying a lee single stage press. I cant recommend wasting your time and money with that junko kit right there. If you buy it , i think you will eventually agree. I dont care how many positive reviews that thing has. That kit doesnt come with lube , might want to get some.

My father has used a lee classic loader for well over 30 years, works great, of course he fires less than 20rds a year. Gun is a tool to him not a toy (adult toy) he gets pissed I see it the other way. Also I believe it one time the 1000 yd world record was made with ammo from one of these.

After watching that video I may give it a try. I am looking to try .308 reloading on a small quantity basis, so $25 bucks or so doesn't seem bad to give it a shot. I see it more as a relaxing hobby, so I don't care too much about the time it takes to load one round. Thanks for the advice everyone, much appreciated.

1 lb powder $30

Rounded, it is $200 or so.

Don't do it.

If you are going to load more than few round, as already recommended: get yourself an inexpensive single stage press like the Lee Classic press and a set of Lee die. About as cheap as you can get and a LOT more versatile.

My very first intro to reloading was with one of those....

Old rusty claw hammer, a powder dipper I made out of a shell casing and a finish nail (borrowed a powder scale to make it right), and the necessary components to make 'em go bang.

Sierra Match, IMR powder, and Winchester primers, IIRC.

Old tang safety Ruger in 7X57.....old steel tube Weaver.

Would shoot an inch or just under at 200 yards all day.

Thanks for the memory recall....them were the days.

This kit is good for SHTF scenarios when you run out of ammo but have some goods stashed away in a little area that doesnt have a loading bench with a press.

But when shit has NOT hit the fan I use a press
