I own a leupold vx3 6.5x2o and am looking into buying a remington sendero. I was just wondering how far i could adjust my scope to shoot out to with a 300 ultra mag. Would I be able to shoot much further w a 7 mm ultra mag?

LOL... Nah, I'm just F'n with ya...

I have no experience with the VX3, have had a few MK4's. A 6.5-20x scope should have more than enough magnification than you need, to reach distances I expect you'll be shooting.

victor,

Far, very far, very very far.......something like this

I have a 30-06 and can shoot 870 yards before it wont adjust any more. How far will the 300 ultra mag shoot with the turret turned as far as it will adjust?

Re: how far will a 300 ultra mag shoot with a vx3?

That '06 have a velocity adjustment?

The 300 will shoot just as far with the VX3 as would if it were topped with the Hubble.

Round here we'd call it a "fer piece"

Re: how far will a 300 ultra mag shoot with a vx3?

You need to know what kind of bullet you are shooting, the BC,and the muzzle velocity. You also need to know how much internal adjustment your scope has,and a canted base, most use a 20moa or 30moa base.

Re: how far will a 300 ultra mag shoot with a vx3?

I think what the guys are trying to tell you Victor is that if you have to ask the question than either chambering is gonna shoot way further than you have the knowledge to use. If someone answers the question for you, you've learned nothing useful. Fill out your profile, spend some time here reading and then read some more. The info is here to answer this question yourself. When you find it and understand it, you'll actually be able to put it to use in the field. Start by researching the external ballistics of each cartridge and spend some time in the optics section. Pay attention to the words, "dope", "elevation", "MOA (minutes of angle)" or "Mils" etc.

Here is a starting point for you articles

Re: how far will a 300 ultra mag shoot with a vx3?

victor, you asked the question in the wrong way.

To answer it yourself, do the following.

1) work out how much elevation your scope offers
2) work out how much elevation you need to get your projectile to whatever distance you want (eg, 1000 yards)
3) determine if your scope has enough internal elevation to get you there

If NOT, you have the following options

a) purchase a tapered base to add more total elevation (eg a 20MOA one piece base)
b) use your reticle to determine hold over points (if your reticle is not just a stand cross, or post style reticle)
c) Purchase a scope that has tonnes of internal elevation, such as a nightforce or loopy mk4, forget the calculations and just buy something that will get you where you want PERIOD.

Re: how far will a 300 ultra mag shoot with a vx3?

There are numerous factors that play into the question your asking. Hard to say with any precision. As an example, and assuming the following:

208 Amax @ 3000 FPS
1000' elevation, 50 deg F, 29.92 pressure, 50% hum
Leupold VX3 6.5-20 LR/T with 94 MOA elevation
20 MOA base

... about a mile (1760 yards, almost exactly). Obviously many of those things will vary. Figure somewhere in the range of 1500 - 2000 yards.

Re: how far will a 300 ultra mag shoot with a vx3?

I'm sorry to the OP, the way that question was asked solicited all those VERY humerous replies. JRose got there first though.

Victor,
Vman and AJBello have you hooked up.

Everyone else- thanks for the Fri morning laugh, Coffee everywhere.....

Re: how far will a 300 ultra mag shoot with a vx3?

how deep is the ocean, how far is the moon? or like ron white said when asked how far the twin engine plane he was on could make it on one engine... "all the way to the scene of the crash"

Re: how far will a 300 ultra mag shoot with a vx3?

I dont have as much experience as some of the people that have posted before me. But this may actually be more helpful to you since I just answered this very same question for myself and I have the same scope you have (I think). I have a Leupold VX-III 6.5-20x50mm LRT, with the target turrets.

The first thing you need to know that you cant just look up somewhere is your muzzle velocity of the ammo in question from the gun in question. If you dont know you "can" guess but you will have to fine tune at the range.

Then go to a site like this

Ballistics Calculator

And enter in the information it asks for. For zero use 100 yards, for Range Interval use 100, and for max range enter the max of that calculator 1500 yards. Then hit calculate.

It should give you the number of up clicks you will need to get to each distance. (this will also need to be fine tuned at the range)

Now you can start turning your scope up and see how far it will go before it runs out of up clicks. As the others have said you can get a 20MOA base or larger if you need more up clicks to shoot the distance you want.

Of course this will be hard to do if the scope is not on a gun since you dont know where zero is to start off with. But you get the idea.
