How Long of Rail?

Re: How Long of Rail?

Larue says their 13.2" covers rifle length gas blocks. Not sure who's rail you're looking at. Rails that go up to rifle length gas blocks are usually measured as 12".

Re: How Long of Rail?

I measured my barrel when I posted and from the barrel end of the insert to the muzzle end of the gas block and it was ~13.8 inches. I read a few places that 13 inch rails (which tend to be larger than 13 inches) tend to cover the gas block. Since I don't have a complete rifle, I can't figure out exactly where the rail starts. If it starts at the end of a typical barrel nut (even though it goes farther back than that) then taking a 1/2 inch from my measurement, you end up with 13.2. Which is what Larue apparently states (thanks Oodin) as well as Spike's Tactical who said that they will be releasing a new rail that will be 13.2 inches this month that should "fit my needs". Seems at least 2 reputable manufacturers say 13.2 is enough.

Thanks.
