How many MOA of elevation do you need for 1000y if you are zeroed at 100y? Do I need a 20 MOA base? I got a Millett TRS-1 on standard one-piece base.

How can I find the bullet drop trajectory for the Hornady 165g SSTs?

Thanks,

Bullitt

If I'm counting correct.... I got 75 MOA or so.

Re: How many MOA do i need?

yeah you should be fine, but here is my thinking on scope bases, i will always get a 20 MOA for this reason and scope bases are like condoms to me, id rather have it and not need it then not have it and need it. If you click on the Trajectory simplified calculation you will be set. If you dont know what the data field is asking for click on the blue question mark right next to it and it will give you a pretty good explanation as to what value should go in there

Re: How many MOA do i need?

USO scopes are designed and shipped pre-set specifically to work with 20 MOA rails. They are set to get you "on paper" at 100 yards, while still having enough travel to get to 1K. That's all I needed to know. I went with their lead and got 20 MOA bases. Like the man above said, better to have and not need.....

If that's your total travel, you're probably still going to need a 20 MOA base.

Here's why: Only half of the total adjustment range is available as "up" elevation in most scopes which have equal travel up and down with the reticle centered.

If 75 is the total, that's only 37.5. And you need about 4 MOA to get a 100 yard zero. So, that will leave you with 33.5.

And that's not enough to get you to 1000 yards with a .308 at sea level on a cool day.

So get the 20 MOA base.

Re: How many MOA do i need?

Another inherent advantage is a target at extended ranges won't be viewed through the edge of the objective. The erector tube will be more centered giving you a better sight picture.
