I just got off the phone with Mark at SAC and I'm about to fire up a new 308 build. I got a Mcree chassis and a nightforce F1 on standby. I want to keep the whole rig at 15lb or less as this is going to be used as a hunting rifle as well. It will be used for everything from matches to coyote/hog hunting. 90% of my shooting will take place at less than 800yd but I don't want to sacrifice the ability to go real long if the situation presents itself. Heavy palma looks like the contour I will be going with. My real question is at what length do you start losing noticeable performance with the 308. What is the optimal length to maintain good velocity but still maintain manuverability. I'm thinking 22" but wouldn't mind going shorter, and would only want to go longer if there was a real gain in velocity. I will be shooting 175smk with varget 90% of the time as well. I would appreciate any input you all got on this
