How often to Body Size

I am new to body sizing. I am reloading for my TRG .338LM. There is no case prscision mic for this case, so I have been using the comparator insert method to messure my once fired Lapua brass that has been fired from this rilfe. I am using insert #13-41. I have been getting messurements of 3.334" to 3.339" to the center of the shoulder. I have chambered the largest brass in the rifle without any problem. Should I just bump back the largest cases to 3.338", and just leave the rest alone?

Thanx,
Hugo

Re: How often to Neck Size

I full length size every time and don't see any reason nor have I had any example proven that there is any real life added to the brass by neck sizing only.
I start my sizing by backing off the die like 1/2 turn then use the redding holder set that raises the height of the bullet. I then go through systematically until the case will just seat and there you are basically a maximum of .002" off the chamber neck. This seems to afford the most accuracy and I have brass loaded many times with not even a sign of wear.
Reallistically, you are going to see the loosening of the primer pocket and the hardening of the neck before anything else so why not have the whole case at the same stage instead of having a work hardened neck and a soft body flowing into that neck.

Just my two cents and I am definitely not the most experienced reloader here on the hide.

Gas guns yes. Not as big a deal in bolt rifles.

That will have little to do with case sizing issues. Bad primers maybe. Sizing...not likely unless it is way out of spec (the OP's brass is not).

Personally, I just use my FL die to bump the shoulder back .002. It's a bolt rifle. If the brass is chambering fine run with it.

Re: How often to Neck Size

Well...not me, at least in my GAP .243. If I FL resize every time...just enough to close the bolt with a bit of "touch"...I get 4 to 5 reloads before the case separates. When I neck size, I only FL size every 5 or 6 reloadings....should get me close to 20 shots including annealing, for each brass case. With Lapua...makes a cost differential. JMHO

Yes.

The hazards of neck sizing after checking for length and, if needed, body bumping is basically zero.
