I have a guy trying to trade me his 3-12x42 Klassik for a higher end ~$1,000 AK. The only reason I'm even thinking about it is because it's a S&B. I have no experience on their Klassik Hunter line, and very little experience on S&B's in general. I just know that their military type optics are known for being rugged. If I don't need the ready adjustments or the tactical reticle for holds, and just want a rugged hunting scope, is this it? Or should I just wait and grab a deal down the road on a Zeiss or Swaro? I'm not in a hurry to get a scope to fill this roll as I probably won't even be able to hunt this next year do to work. Just want to know if this is a deal I shouldn't pass up.
Thanks in advance for the responses.

The Klassik is a good scope. Not what S&B got their reputation for, but better than most scopes. Is it a German or Hungary scope?

The 2 less expensive Klassiks are:
    2.5-10x56/L3 Klassik Hungary scope
    3-12x50/L3 Klassik Hungary scope
If it is one of these it may not be the "best" deal for you. if it's one of the others you can't really get hurt cause if you decide you do not like it you can always resell it and get at least the $1,000.00 if not more.
    I hope this helps

I have one of the Klassik ones.
They are great scopes for what they are designed for. Short range low light hunting scopes.

The biggest issue you may face is the turrents and total elevation range being much more limited than you are used to in the PMII line.
If you want this for a hunting rifle or carry around self defense rifle it would be great.

If however you want to put this on a longer range or more "tactical" target rifle, I'd suggest going with the PMII series. You can get well used ones of the 5-25x56 starting out at around $2k and going up from there.

If it was me and someone offered me a 3-12x42 Klassik, I'd probably get it after counter offering a bit lower than what the trade value you listed is.
I'd stick it on a hunting rifle.

    Thanks for the advice.
I ended up passing on it. I don't need another hunting scope right now, even though that scope would be cool to have down the road. I'm likely going to keep my resources focused on tactically oriented things for the next few years and then work on my old man hunting game after that. ;-)
Gotta get what I want while I can. Bolt actions and scopes for them will be around for a while to come regardless of what happens... I hope.
