I think I'm going to sell my custom FN SPR. I'm trying to decide how to go about it.

Currently it has a 284Win barrel on it with ~1200 down the pipe, chambered/installed by a local schmoe with (obviously) no "street cred" here on the hide. It's a good shooter, but I recognize the barrel is getting long in the tooth, and it won't be very desireable in this configuration.

I have a couple certs that I've won (with this rifle), so I was considering using a cert to put a new barrel on it, so it can be sold in a more desireable cartridge, by a more desireable gunsmith.

Trouble is I don't know which chamber or barrel contour would make it most desirable. I have a couple Oby 6.5mm and 7mm M24 contour barrels on hand, as well as a Bartlein 7mm heavy palma, a Bartlein 6.5mm RV and an Oby 6.5mm RV.

My thought was to stick a 6.5 Bartlein RV on it with a 260 chamber, but I know 6.5Creed has been picking up a lot of steam....and of course, the 6s are sure getting popular too.

Another thought was to simply sell rifle minus a barrel, with a barreling cert. That way I could send the rifle to the smith and the smith could send it to its new owner with barrel/chamber of their choice....but I think that takes away from one of the key reasons people buy used/custom rifles from the hide....which is a ready to run rifle in your hands in a week. If you're going to have to deal with a gunsmith and a wait, you might as well just start from scratch.

What do you guys think? What configuration should I set it up in?

Im somewhat in the same position your in. My uncle is gonna a use my Savage 6.5x47 for a long range class in October. I have a .308 barrel on hand that I bought just for the reason of selling it locally afterwards. (don't wanna go through the hassle of shipping it.) Locally, there is no way I could sell it in a caliber that joeblow couldn't go to Wally World and buy some ammo for.

OP, I had good luck selling a Rem 700 5R on here by doing it in pieces. Barreled action, stock, bottom metal.

In my opinion, the bigger hassle will be getting the .308 barrel installed compared to either shipping the rifle to the buyer's FFL, or simply dropping it off at an FFL in your area to ship.

Key word in my post is "Savage". I'll have it on in 15 minutes headspaced and ready to shoot.
