Reacting the 'way you were trained in the military' in the civilian world often involves you going to jail.

Dude, a buddy of mine who just got out of the Army did exactly what you are talking about. Between his Iraq and Astan deployments he was back in the states and out with his buddies. Well some asshole punched his buddy and my friend reacted. He knocked the guy out and when he fell he supposedly got some osrt of brain damage. Now my buddy is on parole and having his wages garnered due to the fines. He is still waiting for the civil suit so he might owe even more. It's never a good idea to get into a fight unless you know without a doubt that you will get away with it, and that usually isn't the case.
