OK with the recent tsunami warning we just had. I was at kinda a loss as to how to pack. I realize that I can grab my SCAR in my discrete case with 8 30rd mags and suppressor loaded in it for bugging out. But I had about 6hrs from when the police knocked on my door untill the wave was expected to hit. I do not have enough soft cases for everything, or even the expensive stuff.

I would love to get 15-20 pelican cases like shown in the other thread. But that would get $$$$$$$$$$$

So my situation is I have a crew cab (5seat) with 3 persons, so the back seat is being occupied. It is raining out and I have no Canopy.

So how do you pack up 50 rifles and leave?
Or prioritize and take top 5? 10? 15? 20? ??? if so how would you do it.

Goodwill has sheets and they are about $1 each used. Get 1 for every 5 rifles, fold, insert rifle, fold, insert rifle.....repeat. Perfection isn't necessary when the options are leave em or deal with a few imperfections next week.

Tarps are about $10 each for the cheap ones, they'll keep stuff dry enough until you get to friends or relatives at higher ground a couple hours later.

The LAST thing I'd do in an emergency is to even try and find room for one of my Pelican's.

Insurance is your friend. Grab the small essentials and worry about yourself and your family first. I'd be more worried about heirlooms and memories over too many guns to carry.

I get the insurace part, but I have had to deal with them before and it would be one less head ache let alone the sentimental value lost. Over half my collection is gifted or passed down to me.

As far as packing pelican cases. I have a 8' bed and plenty of room especially with the clothes and personal items filling the cab.

And remember that I was up with the local EOC from just after Midnight, evacuation order went out about 3am saying that the wave was due between 7-7:30, but really hit about 8am (all 12" of it) So there was plety of time to pack. But I never put any thought to having to pack my whole collection before, more just a bug out situation like a local event where I can grab my BOB and run.

Re: How to pack for a Tsunami warning?

Let me understand this, you are worried about your rifle collection which have well established relatively fixed values, and should be covered by insurance. If there was a tsunami trying to take a ton of guns with me would be my last concern. I would give the extra space in the back to someone who needed a ride if it was me. The half hour should give you enough time to find someone suitable.

For the emergency situation do as advised except replace the sheets with moving blankets. With very little care there will be plenty of protection. Cover it with a tarp and you're GTG

Alright lets say your right. My only neighbor with in 5miles lives on the same driveway and he is able to pack for himself and get out of dodge. So I would have to go way out of my way to try and find someone, but thats not my point. I know how to pack essentials. Growing up in the Alutian Chain we always had to keep Tsunami bags and boxes packed with food and clothing.

We are a young family both in our 20's, no hairlooms or very little and we just built our first house and moved back out of the city (college apt living). So almost all of our things are replacable (think IKEA catalog and you have what our house looks like)

I like the moving blankets more then the sheets. I think I am going to start looking for a M416 and modify it to have a gun locker under a false deck and storage on top for food and probably roof top tent for shelter. Just keep it packed and ready in the garage.

(edit: something like this)

Water, your M1A, and your 1911. You can livefor weeks with no food but water is critical. Mabey throw in a purification system just in case.

Thats not going to happen. I get to enjoy a regular diet of FRESH Salmon, Halibut, LingCod, dungeness crab. I tried the midwest for a year and I cannot eat catfish so that isn't going to happen.

BOB includes 2weeks of food, a few gallons of water, changes of clothes, tent (plus sleeping bags), water purification system (plus tablets), fire starter, Scar16 plus 8mags (ammo box with 2k rds and box of mags ready to go also), Sig 226 (with trident), Smith & Wesson 422 (with sparrow), another ammo box with 9mm and 22lr, spool of paracord.

We camp alot during the summer so camping gear is ready to go at all times. Food is in tupperware (freeze dried). Water and Fuel jugs also in garage. Scar in case with 8 mags and AAC M4-2K. Sig 226 and S&W 442 along with trident, and sparrow packed in pelican case ready to go also packed in case is extra mags and holsters for each.

Where we live there are plenty of springs with fresh water, plenty of game animals to eat, but shelter will be important. Guess I need to trow a few tarps in the kit.

That is for a true BOB "GTFO" situation. From start of packing to driving up a mountain is 5 minutes. Which is less then 2 min to pack and about 3 min to drive.

BUT I was just a little thrown off by the extended lead time. And being able to pack more then the BOB's.

Re: How to pack for a Tsunami warning?

FNA forgot about those. Have surf boards, boogie boards and SUP's instead though.

Thats crazy watching the wave in Japan, looks like its moving alot slower then I would have thaught.
