I have been looking around but haven't been able to find any good ways to remove alumahyde. I am trying to prep a barrel for nitriding. Anybody have any suggestions?
Acetone and a toothbrush. Those cheap vibrating tooth brushes for about $5 will lift the paint off with very little effort. If you Alumahyde is the old formula (before about 2005) good luck getting it off short of blasting. I dont know what was it in then but it was a different animal completely.
Brake Cleaner will get it off. It's what I use. Spray it on and Alumahyde II will crinkle and wipe off like your using an acidic paint type remover. It may take a few sprayings to get it started, just let it evaporate on its own.
It was just put on last week so I imagine it is not circa 2005 or prior. Thanks for the tips guys, I was worried about damaging the crown but it doesn't look like that will be an issue.
