Hi, need some help with removal of my DPMS 308 SASS quadral handguard. Got a lightweight Troy Battle Rail enroute to replace stock. Don't need all the rails - or the weight.

I loosened the forearm nut but the rail won't unscrew without hitting the gas block and tube.

Hours of searching w/no results.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You have to remove the gasblock. There are 3 set screws. Remove them, then tap the block forward, and off.

Ahhhh, Thank you very much!!

The 3 screws are; the 2 on the bottom and the 1 gas tube?

Any tips for tapping the block off without scratching the barrel? Very tight clearance with the handguard still on.

Thanks, but I only wish it were that easy.

The gas block is underneath the quadrail and it seems the quadrail won't unscrew off the receiver until the gas block is removed. Maybe the gas tube as well.

Looks like I'll have to use a punch or something and go in through one of the round vent holes to tap it off.

Hopefully they won't be noticed under the new handguard then!

Soak the threads with Kroil for about 24 hours and let it really soak in. The, apply heat and the heat will help break loose the loc-tite that is often put onto threads.

If you are having problems getting your strap wrench to have sufficient traction, use a piece of scotch brite pad between the strap, and whatever you are grabbing. The scotch brite pad really grips great, but it may leave marks....Won't matter on a forend that you don't want to use though.

I had none of these troubles... I simply removed the three set screws and tapped the block off using a brass punch. It wasn't "locked" on there. No biggie, but if it resists your attempts, hit it with a bit of heat.
