Ok, go easy on me here. I bought a couple of the Bushnell 4200 Elite 6-24x50 Mil/Mil FFP scopes to put on my Remington 700's in 223 and 308. The 223 won't be shot at distances past 600 yards. The 308, I'd like to take it up to 1000. These scopes seem to have limited travel. My 308 has an EGW 20 MOA base on it, so that should help. I have Burris Xtreme tactical low rings I mounted them in and I've lapped them (and boy did they need it!).

So I'm a bit new to this, but if I want both rifles to have a 100 yard zero (maybe 200 yards on the 308 if it will help), and given that the 308 has a 20 MOA base, how should I set up the travel on the scopes? I will mostly shoot 168gr in the 308 and 62gr (I know, I know) in the 223. Suggestions and help is certainly appreciated.

Basicaly just mount it, and try to get a 100yrd zero with it. Some scopes will not have enough travel with a tapered base, to get a 100yrd zero. Since the taper is meant for long range shooting, a farther distance may be all your left with for a zero. Bushnells with the target turrets, are very easy to set to zero, just remove the alan screw, pull the turret, align to "0", reinstall.

Really nothing too difficult. Mount your scope one the 308. Put your elevation turret in the center of its mechanical travel (screw the elevation knob all the way down and then count the total # of mils up you have. Divide that total by two and set it there). Now turn the elevation turret clockwise (down) another 5.5 mils (20 moa divided by 3.6) and that should get you on target at 100 yards. Zero your turrets after you site in @ 100 yards and you're ready.

I would actually consider that about perfect. It will be easy to find zero, crank it all the way down and come up 1.5 mils. If you'd like to play it safe, you can store the scope one rev up so its sitting near the center when it not in use.
