How would I go about selling a rifle?

Re: How would I go about selling a rifle?

Thanks, sorry I did not know about that stuff, I don't post much, just learn ALOT of useful (and not so useful) information.

*EDIT* Accually I ment, how would I go about the FFL transfers and the legal stuff? I am not a certified FFL, just an ordinary citizen who wants to sell one of his rifles.

Thanks,
P.B.Walsh

Re: How would I go about selling a rifle?

Walsh this is the steps I use to sell here and other places.

1. Inspect the weapon/item for defects and note them.
2. Take good digital photos and load them to my computer in a file just for the item for sale.
3. Load photos to an account at photo bucket. It's free and will host yours photos for the ad.
4. Write my ad in WS word with details about finish, defects and condition of bore. Add any accessories or items missing.
5. Create a new thread on the correct forum and drag and post ad.
6. Create hot links to photos of item for sale.

Be sure to follow all ATF and forum rules about weapon transfer.
Once you post it on the net there's a record of this weapon and you want to make sure you’re within the law.

Re: How would I go about selling a rifle?

EASY:

post the rifle for sale.

when a buyer commits, have them send CERTIFIED funds, a copy of the FFL they want it shipped to, a copy of their Drivers License.

Check the FFL on the BATFE website, then take a copy of the ffl and the packaged rifle to UPS and send it to the ffl with the person's name and contact number inside the box.

also be careful sending stuff to California, some firearms are not allowed there.

Re: How would I go about selling a rifle?

Thank ya'll so much, now I just got to figure out if I want to sell it or not.

*EDIT* How would a rifle get out of my name and under the name of the buyer.

Thanks,
P.B.Walsh

Only thing I'd add is also make sure to include a copy of your Drivers License with the rifle when you ship.

Have the buyer of your rifle send you a copy of the FFL where he wants the rifle shipped to. Then ship the rifle there with a copy of the FFL and a copy of your Drivers License and when he goes to pick it up the dealer will transfer the rifle from your name to his.

+1 and make sure his FFL is willing to accept a firearm from you, some dont like to and will ask you to go to a FFL in your area and have him ship the rifle, in which case you will have to pay that FFL a small fee.
