Shooters,

I just finished some Howa 1500 action work and I took a few videos. In the videos we are showing the runout in relationship to the centerline of the bore. We first start off with checking the action face then the action threads.

Here are some of the specs of this Howa 1500 short action.

Front raceway diameter .6880"
Rear raceway diameter .6980
Bolt extraction .094
Firing Pin Protrusion .056

Thanks for watching.

Re: Howa 1500 action truing.

I like the Howa a lot. Lets look at the pro's and con's.

Pro's.

-1.5-3 times the extraction power (bolt handle/action came leverage) than a Remington. Most Remingtons are in the .030"-060" depending on a few things.
-Integral lug which some people like. It just eliminates the need to fuss with a recoil lug.
-Solid bolt handle, very strong and tactical bolt knob conversions turn out great.
-M16 extractor standard, solid bolt nose.
-Most seem to be very true out of the box.

Con's

-Metric hardware and pitches.
-Round upper receiver with flat bottom and sides, requires more attention to bed and I prefer round actions.
-Not many aftermarket parts or services created for the Howa.
-inherit construction
-Barrels are torqued on Super Tight. Here is what you need to break one loose.

Almost as magical as a double rainbow all the way...the double barrel vice!

Its just a preference just like I prefer cut rifled barrels over button rifled. To me it makes more sense.
