Have been flip flopping on what rifle to buy. Been considering a Howa Bravo because it appears Criterion will be making prefit barrels for it.
Did some web searches for Howa 1500 action replacement parts and could find nothing. What the hell are you supposed to do if you break a firing pin?

You call or e-mail Legacy Sports International (the importer) tell them what you need. They will take care of it for you.

The easiest thing to do would be to remove the cocking piece/firing pin assembly from the bolt body and send it to them.

Or you could buy the part in advance from them and have it collect dust in a drawer.

However, broken firing pins are not something I worry about with either of mine and I dry fire the shit out of them almost every day.

I know it's unlikely. The situation I was presenting was hypothetical. After reading of people snapping firing pins in high end actions like BH TL3's, it crossed my mind it could happen to me too.
I was just a bit shocked by lack of parts from online retailers. Brownells even carries Tikka T3 firing pin assemblies but no Howa. Want to make sure I can get barrels and parts for a platform before I buy it that's all.

The performance of these rifles seems promising for my purposes. .308 Win on paper targets to 300 yards, steel to 600 yards, and the occasional steel to 1000 yards if I feel like driving an hour to go shoot.

As long as Legacy Sports is importing them, I don't have a concern. And Howa rifles seem to become more and more well known every year.

I've been an owner and user, on and off, since 2002.

Where did you get the information about the Criterion prefits?

I know it does not answer your questions or concerns, but a few months back I also didn't know what to buy. 308 pirate and maybe a member or two more convinced me to go with a Howa. So far, I don't regret the decision and really like mine.

Legacy Sports supplies parts for the Howas, you can call us and place a parts order. 775-828-0555. to be honest, i have yet to see broken parts and i have several barreled actions with thousands of rounds through them. The only parts we usually replace are those that are lost by customers or were modified and no longer work (not recommended)
