Hello
I have a Howa 1500 short action 223 and have put a choate tactical stock on it with no issues and it fits perfect with the internal magazine.

However I bought a magazine conversion kit with the 10 round mag from legacy sports and when I installed the new trigger guard and tightend it up the magazine will not lock into place.
The only way it will lock on, is if I lossen the 2 action screws but then the screws are too loose and the barrel and action is loose.

Has anyone had this problem ?
Any suggestions on how I can fix it ?
Thanks :)

Sounds like the distance between the action and DBM is not correct and the magazine hits the action before it can lock into place.
Maybe you could try placing thin washers between the DBM and the stock to get the correct distance.

You can do this to confirm that is the problem, and then you can slowly shorten the mag release lever where it contacts the magazine to achieve the clearance if you don't like to leave in washers. I have done both and can't tell a difference for shooting performance.

I might try and place some washers between the bottom of the 2 pillars and the trigger gaurd to space it some more.

What would making the mag release shorter do if you didn't have the spacers in there ?
I don't understand how it would work without the spacers ?

If you shorten the end that contacts the magazine, it'll move the contact point further down the magazine body, same as spacing the bottom metal down. Remove a little material at a time to avoid going too far and getting a sloppy magazine securement.
