Howa vs ruger

I have both in a different caliber and agree Howa for the win.

If you reload, I would ask for experience on distance to lands and what you can load in the magazine. The mini action might limit your COAL.

ordered a howa mini action barreled action today in 6.5gr. think im gonna go with the boyds pro varmint with adjustable comb. then look at triggers.

No need to look at triggers. The Howa trigger is adjustable, and mod-able. I think you’ll like it. I would take the money that you would spend on the trigger, and put it into the stock fund, and go for the chassis over the Boyd’s stock. No bedding needed.

I was gonna go chassis but Realized that I won't be able to run aics mags in future unless I run another type, boyds, b&c and run aftermarket bottom metal. But noted on the trigger. Gonna go that route first

Very cool. I would call Boyd’s and get a few more specifics about the stock before I ordered it.

I ordered the tacti-cool stock for my wife’s 10/22, and ended up having to do a lot of work to it. The fit was great and all, but I had to install a pillar so the wood wouldn’t compress between the action and the action screw. I also went through and bedded the action to the stock.

At about $250 for the stock your looking at, with options that I’m assuming your picking, your about $150 from the oryx, and might still have to install 2 pillars, and glass bed the stock. I would pay the extra $150 just to save myself the work and time. A lot of folks would go to a gunsmith for bedding.... mine charges $150 to glass bed.

As far as mags go, it looks like the mini action uses Howa’s own mags. Not sure that there is an AICS option out there for the mini.... but it’s something I would check out.

I’m not saying the way your leaning is wrong at all, just pointing out things that I would dig into a little before I made a decision between those two. I’m sure Boyd’s, @MDT_OFFICIAL or @MDT_Josh, and Howa/Legacy would answer any and all questions that you have about any of the products your considering.

The issue that you will run into with the 6.5 Grendel in the Ruger American is that they don't feed very well out of any other magazine besides the Ruger rotary mag. Therefore, if you switch to the Oryx chassis, you will have issues with feeding.

What I would suggest would be the Oryx and Howa Mini combo in 6.5 Grendel, using the OEM Howa Mini magazines that you know will fit :)

Mdt_josh, its still an option. Any idea when fde will be released? 1 reason I wanna go Boyd's is the ability to shoot sooner. But I'm willing to wait. I still have my 308

From what I know, we are only planning to offer ODG side panels at this time, however, additional panels can be purchased on our website. Please note our sole distributor is Legacy Sports if offering a custom version to their dealers.

The Howa is amazing in the Boyds At-One Thumbhole they just released. I refer to it as a laminate chasis. I built mine as a hunting platform first with target as a secondary. Its comfortable and very accurate. The American Predators are getting good traction and I have a 6mm Creedmoor that shoots very very well.

I already have the howa now. Just looking at stock options. Its boyds or oryx. I'd go b&c if they offered a adjustable comb for it. Probably just go oryx so I dont have to worry about fitting. Josh, oryx allow room for a aftermarket trigger?

I have Ruger Ranch Rifle that is light & durable albeit not a precision rifle since it is 7.62X39.

It is accurate & reliable.

For your use though there is a good case to get a Howa.
