HS Precision .300 questions

I have a HS Precision HTR 2000 in .300 win mag. I love this gun, but I am thinking about doing a couple of modifications to it to make it more shooter friendly.

1. Installing a muzzle brake. I know that a muzzle brake is an option on the gun from the factory, but I didn't buy it new, and the guy who did opted away from the brake. I am wanting a AAC QD brake on there seeing how those are the silencers I like the most. My question is this, would a standard 7.62 muzzle brake work? or would the increased pressure of the .300 have more extreme effects than the .308?

2. The adjustable cheek piece on the stock is very nice, the only issue is that when it is raised to accommodate my profile, i can't remove the bolt, and must lower it completely to the bottom, and then raise it back up. The bolt only needs an extra 1/8-1/4" to clear. Has anyone ever shaved off that portion on a HS Precision stock? Anyone see any problems with this?

Thanks

Re: HS Precision .300 questions

The .308 brake should work with the .300 but you def won't be able to use a .308 suppressor. Are you planning to use a suppressor? If so you may consider using just a thread on. If not using a can, you might want to consider other manufactures for a magnum brake.

I am thinking of getting a Gemtech suppressor on my 300 WM HTR. It is rated for a 300 WM or smaller. You should contact AAC to find out if the specific suppressor you are interested in will work.

The side of my adjustable stock has hash marks molded into it for my to index the height of the cheekpiece. It only takes a second to crank it down or up. I have never considered shaving the stock just to avoid that, but then its never bugged me.

Yea, good idea, i need to just contact AAC. As for the stock, I day-time as a professional in conceptual manufacturing and the fact that I have to go through one more step just to take my bolt out, when the obvious glaring reason for such a problem could be easily prevented/circumvented just irks me. Nothing that is that big of a deal, as it only takes 36-42 seconds, but still, I know it's a problem, and therefore, I loose some amount of time, and sleep, thinking about it.

Thanks though, you're right, not that big of a deal.
