HS Precision stock question

I had the opportunity to pick up a HS stock from a guy that was never mounted to a gun. Problem is the stock has the inlet for a Heavy Bull barrel, and I have the SPS Varmint contour. I know the barrel will be floated anyway, will this affect the performance of the gun? Besides the extra gap on the side of the barrel? Or should I sell the stock and get the varmint contour? Maybe rathole this stock for when I can afford to rebarrel this gun. The stock is in perfect condition, double palm swell.

Re: HS Precision stock question

Was thinking if I skim bedded it that I could just put some tape around the end part of the barrel and coat with release agent. Then bed to the end of the stock. This would fill in some of the gap and leave enough to free float the barrel with the tape on it. Wouldn't that work? Or leave it the way it is? Or sell it?

hup hup hup, stop right there. skim bed it, forget about how the channel looks. if you get barrel envy, you can always get a heavier barrel to fill her channel up. read the bedding thread in the gunsmithing thread and you will see how far people bed forward of the lug. me personally, i would leave the channel as is. who cares if its bigger than the barrel. you can always get a bigger barrel, its easier than opening that channel. plus there is more airflow.

i could not tell you how the barrel looks im my HS. id have to pull it out to see. but pictures would help too

Re: HS Precision stock question

No, I did not mean I would leave the whole barrel bedded. That is what the layer or three of tape on the barrel would be for. Pull the tape off and you would have said amount of free floated barrel. BUT I think you are right, I will leave it alone. Not worth it. Never thought of the extra air flow. Thanks
