I am looking to buy a HS precision stock for my 308. I have sen several for sale but some are listed as 5R some as varmint some police. My question is will any of these work mith my Remington sps tactical 308? It came with the terrible hogue rubber stock.

Thanks

Sort of. You at least want to get the barrel channel right.

Does the SPS have a varmint barrel? Sporter barrel?

Re: HS Precision stocks?

The barrel channels are made for the heavier barrels, however, if you need more room then all that you need to do is get a dowel rod and some sandpaper and open it up SLOWLY until you reach the opening that you need. Why are you not considering a McMillian stock? I have had both the HS Precision stock as wellas McMillian and found that I get a tighter rifle with my McMillan. Don't be affraid of glassing, it's worth the extra time for the repeat accuracy that you will be getting. If you are stuck on the whole HS Precision stock then get the M24 type with the adjustable LOP. If the wait for the McMillan is stopping you the check out JW Precision as they have the stocks in stock. http://jwprecision.ca/products.html
Semper Fi,

Re: HS Precision stocks?

Look at the "Tactical" and "Varmint" lines. Anything made for a Rem 700 short action will work for you.

I have the tactical thumbhole w/ adjustable comb and LOP. I dig it. I'll be buying one of their sporter stocks very soon for a 17 Remington I just got..

Yep. I did that just last week. Received a response in less than 24 hours.

If you have the xMark trigger and the alum block on the HS stock is older for the 700 trigger, the block will have to be modified by removing alum on the block to make room for the wider xMark trigger. 15 mins with a Dremel is what mine took.

Re: HS Precision stocks?

HS Precision stock came on my new 700P .308 and I absolutely love the feel of it with the palm swell and the LOP fits me fine.

XMark trigger kicks ass too.

When I first bought the rifle I planned on getting a McMillan stock to emulate an M40A3 but I've since dropped that idea due to how much I love the HS.

Maybe I'll get another 700P and outfit it with a McMillan stock and a higher-magnification scope (currently waiting for the Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44 for my 700P).

Re: HS Precision stocks?

Picked up the HS Precision M24 fully adj. for my rem 700 .308
still need to get to the range but man is it sweet.
love the palm swell and it has a nice adjustment plenty lop and cheek. Also plan on skim bedding after the first range trip a must for precision!!!

Re: HS Precision stocks?

The HS stock on the R-5 .308 rifles is a few inches shorter than the PSS. I just bought the R-5 rifle,it only comes in 24" bbl but, initially went for the PSS in 26" bbl. Both are great stocks but if you have the 26" bbl in heavy contour you want the PSS it will be for your bbl length, if you have a short heavy bbl get the R-5 take off.
Hope that helps you on your decision.

Well glad I saw this before I buy a stock for barreled action. I have a 26" heavy barrel so at least now I know what stock type I need, either a PSS or Police stock or a stock built for the 26" heavy barrel.
