Hey guys, I have a HS Precision rifle Pro-Hunter that I am planning to rebarrel to 260Rem. Was wanting to swap out the bottom metal to an AICS style magazine to allow for the longer COAL. Was wondering if any one has done this with the HS actions, if it is even possible?

Thanks

Re: HS Rifle

HS Precision does not use the Winchester Model 70 action. HS started off using Remington 700 receivers then developed their own action called the Pro-Series 2000 which has a footprint similar to the 700 action. The 2000 action uses it's own trigger and and a three position Model 70 style safety. Take the rifle out of the stock and see if the opening on the bottom of the action will accommodate the overall length that you're trying to achieve. If that's a go, then it's a matter of selecting a bottom metal of your choice and inletting the stock if necessary. If the action needs to machined on the bottom to accommodate a longer COL, have a good smith look at the action.

Re: HS Rifle

Now why the hell didn't I think of that, lol, momma told me I wasn't the brightest penny in the role. Thanks Badshot, I'll have to do that. My biggest concern is having to whittle away at the feed ramp to make it work, not sure if I want to do that.

Re: HS Rifle

Some gunsmiths have raised concerns about milling away material at the feedramp. That's the area just rear of where the right side bolt lug locks down into. That's why you want a good smith to look at it. You may or may not have enough material to do it safetly.

Re: HS Rifle

I put my HS HRT in a Manners stock with their mini-chassis made for a Rem 700. Had to open up the left side for the bolt release, other than that perfect fit and function.
