It really is but it's rare to find an objective iPhone owner that will admit it. You will get people rocking old school versions of the iPhone that bit into the marketing so hard they STILL think their phone is the best thing on the face of the earth.

To the OP: Get the Desire. It's a great phone and you won't be disappointed.

Re: HTC Desire phone Is it any good?

The Desire is the global version of the EVO 4G, with a few tweaks.
Great phone, as are the Incredible, Droid2, and Droid X.

Are you on Verizon? I looked at the HTCs but ultimately walked out with the Droid 2. If you don't need the physical keyboard, I don't think you can go wrong with the HTC or any of the Motorola phones. I think the HTC Desire is an awesome phone - if you don't mind a virtual keyboard, then you'd probably be really happy with the Desire.

Re: HTC Desire phone Is it any good?

I have an EVO after comparing a number of Droids I went with that and I LOVE it. But I cannot speak as to the Desire. Engadget and a number of other sites do some good side by side comparisons. Good luck!

Who's your carrier?

The Desire is a cool phone. How tech savvy are you? Android OS is pretty cool, especially if you are a hacker. Not quite as fluid/intuitive as iOS, but I would hardly call that a deal breaker. The 2.2 upgrade is a considerable jump ahead IMO.

Unless you are really into phones (IE, to root/unlock iPhones or other Android devices) it sounds like it's your best bet......

Re: HTC Desire phone Is it any good?

Thanks Tucker and everyone. Looks like the AndroidOS is good.

Are there ballistic apps like on the iPhone. I have an iTouch with a great app for the range. If the droid is GTG the iTouch goes to the 13 year old.

Re: HTC Desire phone Is it any good?

The phone comes with a program called Market.
You can use that to look for apps, most of which are free, or you can use App Brain.
I like App Brain, because I can browse the apps on my PC and queue them to be downloaded by the phone.

The popular ballistics app is called Shooter.
This one costs $9.99

Before you confuse someone or someone bites your head off the HTC Desire is not a Droid. It's a Desire which is an Android based phone but the Droid (and now the Droid 2) is specifically a Motorola phone which also runs Android OS. A lot of people call any phone running Android OS which is inaccurate.... and somewhat confusing. lol

Android = mobile phone operating system
Droid = mobile phone made by Motorola that runs Android OS

Re: HTC Desire phone Is it any good?

I have the EVO through Sprint and I love the phone, I have had it for about 3 months now and it still surprises me on how nice and easy it is to use.

Now if Otterbox would get off their collective asses and release a defender case for it I would be happy.

I'll walk down the street and tell them to pull their effin' H's out of their A's.

Re: HTC Desire phone Is it any good?

Not 100% on the term "Droid".

I saw a Verizon ad for an HTC phone just last evening, and they referred to it as the "HTC Droid Incredible".
So in their case, Verizon is using the term to generically refer to any phone in their lineup using the Android OS.

From Wikipedia:

"The term "Droid" has been used by Verizon Wireless, used under license from Lucasfilm,[5] for their line of smartphones based on the Android operating system. Motorola's late-2009 Google Android-based cell phone is called the Droid. This line of phone has been expanded to include other Android-based phones released under Verizon, including the HTC Droid Eris, the HTC Droid Incredible, Motorola Droid X and Motorola Droid 2."

Re: HTC Desire phone Is it any good?

Just like the commercial says that 'Mom jeans' are when a mom that wears jeans resembling their daughter's jeans but we all know what it really means. You're welcome to call whatever device whatever you want but I'm telling you that among those who know there is but only one Droid. All other phones have an actual name. ;-)

OP, there's already a nice Android thread running that you want to check out here.
