I was looking at the Hummer H3's yesterday. I would get the 5.3 v8 model and was wondering if anyone has one. If so, any complaints, what's the gas mileage on these? Just looking to see how these things are

Re: Hummer H3..anyone have one?

We bought one in Nov 05. We only have 14,000 miles on it but it has been a good vehicle. We bougt it strictly for the fact that we needed smething when the baby came along and it was also cheaper than a comperable Tahoe or 4 Runner.
There is a stigma that goes along with the "Hummer" that cant be avoided. People see the Hummer and think it was $100k vehicle when we only paid $29k

Re: Hummer H3..anyone have one?

It is built on the trailblazer line from Chevrolet. It is comparable in every way. The in-line motor has some problems but the 5.3 is a great motor and we have very little problems with it. As with any vehicle they have had some issues but mostly software based and they have for the most part all been worked out. Software updates are easy and solve an unbelievable amount of issues. If you have issues or problems just PM me and I will let you know what to do and anything that may have been done to it with the vin

Re: Hummer H3..anyone have one?

I bought one based entirly on the fact that it was a sreaming deal at the time as it was a new 07 and the 09's were just arriving (-3500.00), GM was running a sale (-5000.00) and the sale could be used in conjunction with the GM military discount (-5000.00). The dealer also gave me high NADA for my beat to hell F350 while the other dealers were at the extreame low end. All total I got it for 22K and the original sticker was right at 40k two years before when it hit the lot.

Do I like it...yeah its ok. Got it to commute and given that my previous vehicle was an F350 Powerstroke the difference in fuel cost was huge to me.

Would I have ever spent anywhere close to the original asking price or do I think its worth anywhere near that...F--K NO! But for what I paid I cant complain.

Bad choice for kids my buddy has the same rig as me and a newborn and its just too small and hes trading it off soon YMMV.

BTW they do pretty dang good offroad I would put it against a new stock jeep but once you mod a jeep you are on a different level entirly (yes I have had a few jeeps too).

Re: Hummer H3..anyone have one?

I have an 09 with the V8. I'm really glad I got mine. Rides great in town and cruises great on the highway. I'll hit 85 without realizing it, then turn on the cruise so I don't get a ticket.Has an unreal 4WD system. All 4 wheels lock. Stay away from the 5 cylinder engine. It's way underpowered for the vehicle and burns as much gas as the V8 since it has to work so hard. Mine gets 14 mpg Hwy. Haven't checked it in town.
I baled out of a 2008 4wd Avalanche that was a fragile POS!!! Glad I did.

Are you serious? Is it really that bad? I thought the 22mpg I was getting in the Range Rover was bad.

Yea, I have a LR Discovery and it's not that bad, and the Land Rovers are full time 4wd.

Re: Hummer H3..anyone have one?

You know it's a POS when not even the Chinese want it...

If you want a family friendly SUV then the Honda Pilot AWD is a good option. Decent mileage, decent resale value, tons of room and easy to drive. I personally hate mine, but that's because I was going around in an Audi S4 before I got it...sigh...

Or the stigma that someone thinks they are driving a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle

. Obviously they couldn't be further apart. The H2 and H3 are what they are. As long as the buyer knows what they are, they have a place. If a true off road vehicle is desired, there are much better/more reliable choices.
