Just use steel shot or lead substitute and you should be fine.

A coworker of mine once caught a nice muley while trolling with popgear, the biggest thing I've ever caught was a duck, that one didn't go over well.
I have shot a few fish, a 20+ lb carp with my remington 870, he was bound and determined to get in the sink box with me. I also once got me some trout that was dangerously close to a prairie dog mound, I got him before he could do any damage to PD's, I shot them too. (But I only ate the fish
)

does shooting sharks count as shooting fish ? a friend of mine in San Diego, Commiefornia, back in the mid 1960's had a 36' fishing boat, he would invite about 8 of us who were good friends of his to go shark shooting, i used my Ruger .44 Mag. Deer Stalker and Ruger .44 Mag Super Blackhawk, we would get several 5 gal. buckets full of slaughter house refuse, go out about 7 miles, dump a bucket of "chum" and in no time, we would be surrounded by sharks, my friend who was using a Winchester M-94, 30-30, we took turns holding a chunk of guts on a pole out over the water, when a shark leaped up we would shoot it.., or try, you had to be fast on the trigger, i lost a lot of brass on those "hunts".
we would haul in about a dozen sharks and sell them at dock side for $50.00 each, paying for fuel and ammo, the boat owner got half and us others split the remainder. none of us were in for the money, just the fun and excitement of hunting on the ocean !!

I once shot a largemouth in our pond once while fishing. Ran every lure int he box by that bitch and she didnt take. Got out the ole 32 win special and dazed her. Had to go wading to get ahold of here but she was a nice 7# fish.
As said above it would be great to smoke some of those flying carp....

I just shot a carp the other day with my AR. There is a creek that has a fairly large water hole under the bridge that is about 100 feet above the water. The carp will come to the surface and sun themselves in the afternoon. If you can catch them at the top of the water sunning you can shoot them. They are a non-native fish species and not covered under any regulations here.

I had some friends growing up that lived off what their dad hunted and fished for. He would hook a big Catfish (20+ pounds) reel it up close and pop it in the head with a 22. Might not eat if he didn't get it in.
I've never done it, wink, wink, nod, nod, but have seen carp and garr shot with anything from 22's to 30-06, gotta get rid of the junk fish some how.

yupp !! shot Gar in Oklahoma, near Enid, a little creek called "Little Turkey Creek", there were Gar in there 4 feet long !! used my M-94, 30-30 Win. killed 7 in two days hunting. a week before, my friend shot an Alligator Snapping Turtle that weighed in at 56 lb., rather small, but very impressive for a farm pond turtle.

I shot a fish once... it was thiiiiis big.. Just kidding, actually I did use my pistol while fishing, on a snake though.

Oh and the snapping turttle though. Not so, in colorado at least you can catch them, donno bout shooting them but you can catch them.

Common snapping turtles are fine to catch, and very tasty if you know what to do with them. Alligator snapping turtles are a different animal.
Found this on MO conservation site:
"Missouri and federal law prohibits the importation, transportation, sale, purchase, taking or possession of animals on the State or Federal lists. If fishing, check your limb lines and trotlines daily; if you catch one of these rare turtles you must release it unharmed."

22lr barrel slipped in the water near nesting or otherwise unsuspecting fish( especially easy at night), will 100% incapacitate said fish. …….. but that was back before we knew better…Just wanted to eat fish.
