Do you guys think this would be a good hunting set up?

Re: Hunting rifle build

So the pic is not your rifle, but only to show the type of stock you have?

6.5x55 would be a great deer and antelope taker.

If it was a true hunter then the 5.5-22 NFX would be on the big-ass heavy side of optics. In that it seems you want a lightweight barrel.

I would go for the NF 2.5-10x32 in something like you are describing, or S&B summit, Klassic or a Swaro.

Re: Hunting rifle build

I'd opt for a MK4 4.5-14 50mm rather than the Nightforce. This would save you about 3/4 of a pound in total rifle weight compared to the NF you listed and a good compromise of magnification. IMHO, NF is a better optic but for my hunting rifles I use MK4's because of weight and honestly the glass has been excellent in lowlight.

That would be a fine hunting set up, unfortunately the description is not of that gun.
No fluting, no over sized knob, no nightforce, etc. If I were to buy that gun I would be leary...............

Re: Hunting rifle build

Looks like a good build but I would go with a lighter scope. I am doing something similar with a Model 70 LA I have sitting around. Threading a lightweight contour barrel on it in 284 Winchester, Bell and Carlson ultra-light medalist and probably a nice lightweight scope thinking Vortex 2.5-10. I figure it will be a good light rifle being able to kill anything with hooves and it wont break the bank. For the few weeks it will get used a year I dont want to drop a lot of cash on it.
