Looking to replace factory stocks on a couple rifles and thought I would turn to the forum for some advice from people with experience.

Looking to replace factory wood stock on my Rem 700 classic in 6.5x55 with 22" sporter contour barrel. Was looking to spend $300-500. Not sure about Bell and Carlson, HS, or something else (maybe Manners?). Looking for synthetic, not too heavy, nothing too crazy.

Also looking to replace cheap factory synthetic stock on Winchester Model 70 375H&H. Again, same thing as above. This one has magnum contour barrel.

I have an HS (tactical style) on my Rem 700 LTR but have never handled the others.

Thanks again guys.

Re: Hunting rifle stock recommendation

I have a couple B&Cs, one's like 20 years old on a Mark X barreled action, don't know the model, they still make it, its just a plain jane stock, its been packed thru horrid weather and is still as good as new, it does not have the aluminum pillar but its quite stiff, my father has the same stock but newer and its not as stiff, don't know what they changed. My other is a light tactical on a M700, with the pillar and its rigid, but not what comes to mind for stalking deer or packing up a mountain. Both fit the actions well, and floated the barrels, both are a bit heavy, they have similar grip profiles which are thicker than factory remingtons and I think more comfortable, but I don't have small hands. I can't say how they compare to other brands, but I probably haven't bought my last.

That range puts you squarely into McMillan territory. Their hunting stocks will generally run you $450ish. You might try looking at their specials page, as they often have items in-stock that may fill your needs without the 12 week wait.

Manners also offers a light weight stock in this price range. Personally I'm a manners guy thus it is my recommendation however McMillian and Bell & Carlson also offer good products.
