Hello, i wanted to get some input on an effective hunting sight for a semi-auto shotgun. I have a Weatherby SA-08, and i want to either put a holographic or some sort of HI-viz/bead sight that will be effective for hunting and trap. For those who have such a sight, what are you using.

I was considering buying the Redring sight ($600), that guy looks nice and seems to work on any ribbed shotgun, not to mention it was rated best shotgun sight for 2013 by Field and Stream...

I've never used nothing but the little bead for a sight on a shotgun. Are you wingshooting, or shooting stationary. I think the most important thing is make sure your gun fits you. When you mount it , it should be pointing exactly what your shooting at with proper mechanics.

Save your money and spend it on cases of shells to practice with. I shot truckloads of ducks, geese, pheasants, quail and doves for about five years without a front bead on my Benelli. I also shot a lot of sporting clays at that time with around an 80% average. I am actually not sure how long I shot without a bead because I don't know how long it was missing when one of my buddies pointed it out. The only time I ever look for anything other than a busting clay or crumpling bird is when I am pointing the bore at a turkey's head.

I did however replace the bead once I got tired of people I didn't know pointing out the fact that it was missing.

As noted above, it's all about proper fit on a shotgun...at least when shooting moving targets.

Agree that a well fit shotgun is of paramount importance!

I did put a Burris SpeeBead on my SBE, for certain hunting needs. Parallax free, and works great for turkeys & predators where I'm more aiming a tightly choked pattern, as opposed to throwing a wide one at smaller game. I do remove the SpeedBead for upland game, and the mounting base sits low enough to where it won't interfere with focusing down the vented rib...

Should add, Burris CS is fantastic when is comes to replacing lost/broke parts. I lost the plastic shroud for my SpeedBead, and the mounting screws have gotten stripped from taking it on/off. Replaced at no charge!
