I know the .243 105 hybrids are not recommended for hunting by Berger. Has anyone tried these for hunting and if so what were your results? Looking for info on any game from varmint to whitetail.
With a 6x47 I had quarter to golf ball size exits on whitetails if you shoot behind the shoulder. Range was 250-525 yards. Shoulder hits do not exit. works great on yotes
Shooting coyotes 500 to 900yds with 105 hybrids out of 6br norma at 2828 fps , unless ,shot in shoulders would travel 100 to 300 yds before falling dead. Switched to 105 vld hunting bullets ,any thing inside 1000yds. drops dead period. And that's also at 2828 average velocity.
Fall 2014 SE Montana I tagged this 4x4 with the 6mm XC at 390-400 yards using 105 Berger Hybrid at ~2900fps.
He had been napping in the cut field with a group of 4 doe when I first saw him 700+ yards out. Snuck in to a closer rise that per my LRF said was 387, 395, 399. I was a little concerned about the range as the ground was flat with a lot of stuff on the ground between us and behind him for false returns... but it looked like ~400 and I got a good hit on the trees behind him at 550+ so I dialed 400 and waited for him to stand up.
20 minutes or so he decided the choice grass was a little greener a step away and got up. He had been lying almost face on to my position and when he stood he was a hard quartering toward. Reticle planted where the heart should be I pressed the go switch and on impact he ran about 40-50 yards directly toward me... stopped and did a freakishly high back flip... got back up and did a second back flip and stayed down that time...
No autopsy pics on this guy... it was in the 50-60’s so I have someone else cutting him up that is set up for fast processing in a cool environment. From the look of it while dressing him out the bullet entered in front of his right shoulder and exited two thirds down his left flank near his last rib. I didn’t notice any broken bones in the bullets path which leaves me to believe the bullet likely did not expand. Bullet placement was key.
