This Long Range 22 lr stuff is SOOOOO addictive.

Ok 90 days ago I had some 22 lr's in my arsenal, but thought of them as "plinkers" 50-75 yards at best.

Now that I have made my way out ot 200 yards, I have this ITCH to get further and get some some other 22's that will reach out there.

Yesterday I got in a pair CMP 40X's. One is a pretty rough looking 40X and the other is a pretty nice looking 40 XB.

I had time to shoot this morning so I took them both with me to check function. Both fired flawlessly and extracted and ejected perfect. Both had the blocks, but no sights so i decided to shoot them both a 50 yards just to see if I could hit anything without sights.

I shot the 40X first and shot a few rounds at some debris in the backstop mound to see where it was hitting. I then just lined up on the front block and put it in the middle of the target and fire five rounds. Checked the target and was astounded I had hit it all five times. I did the exact same thing with thew 40XB at 50 yards and it did even better.

Ok I know it was probably a fluke, but I was just crazy excited when both these guns shot this well at 50 yards "WITHOUT" sights.

Please help, I can't seem to stop myself! Is there a 22 lr anonymous??

That's awesome! If I had the two of those rifles in front of me, I'd plan a full restoration for both. The only difference between the two would be that the 40XB would have a nice pair of aperture sights and the 40x would get set up for smallbore silhouette/ 3P shooting

Heck, you already have the Annie that has well proven herself to go the long distance.

what are your plans for these two gorgeous pieces of history?

Havn't decided yet. If all goes well, I've get one more 40 XB coming. Would like to restore two and build other to match my center fire. Just not sure I can do that to one of these though. I really like them just the way they were built.

I am with you. I sent in the order for a USMC 40X to the CMP. I hope that goes through. If not, I also sent in for a 40X barreled action.

The question is how do I justify it if I already have a great 22 that shoots lights out? Well... I will put some iron sights on the USMC and that will be an iron sights dedicated gun. The barreled action I can convert into a nice trainer for my kids.

At least that is what I keep telling myself. It is irrational to like my 40X so much that I buy others, but I think that is exactly what I am doing.

Funny. I want to buy another, but no funds right now, and I really hate they not repeater. Next rifire will prob be a repeater.

Carter,

What have you done to the 40X that you have. Has it been customized or are you shooting it pretty much stock. I never did see you post a picture of it in another thread I was following about 40X's. Put up a pic when you get a chance.

If I get the other 40XB and it is nicer than the one in these pics, that will be the one I restore back to original. If the gun comes in, it is supposed to have a set of original sights with it. Not sure these old eyes of mine can shoot them, but I sure would like to try.

The 40X, I basically got because the deal was on both rifles and the 40X was at a good price. It is pretty rough, but it is all cosmetic. It will clean up nice and I might use it as trade fodder for a scope, if the second 40XB comes in.

Oh well, I am just glad to get them.

I got one more I bought before the 40X deal came up. Remember the title of this thread, I GOT IT BAD. I picked up a CZ BRNO Model 4. I shot it with a cheap scope and Wolf MT ammo and it is a one holer at 50, but I don't care for the trigger yet.

Hard to compare to the Annie though. This one might have to find a new home if and when I get the other 40 XB. If I decide to move it, I'll let it be known here first. I will shoot it a few mores times before I make any rash decisions.

D_Tros, man you put up some good scores with your 40X, I would really like to see it as well.

Great looking 40X. What stock is that and where did you get the bottom metal plate/cover? Is it metal or plastic?

That is kinda what I invision for one of the 40XB's if I get the second. It doesn't look like you did anything to change the intergrity of the original, just put it in a new stock. I like that idea so it can go back like it was if you want to.

Mine on page 2. It currently has a NF on it. 3.5-15. I think the Zeiss maybe a bit better in clarity, but the added elevation was amazing (from 40 moa to over 80 moa). Now I just want something with zero stops.
