I've read quite a few scope reviews and I would say most, if not all of them, put some emphasis on being able to see the mag scale on the power ring. And a majority of the time, they knock the scope because you can't easily see them from behind the scope.

    Why?

I can understand if the scope is SFP and you need a certain mag to range targets, but on an FFP scope, what does it matter?

When I'm shooting, I start with the magnigication on low power to find the target, and then zoom in until I see fit. Not once has it occurred to me to check what the magnification setting is.

    Am I missing something?

Are scope reviewers just always negative and need to find something to write about?

    You're not missing anything.

My SFP scopes all have BDC reticles. How do I know when I'm on max magnification? When the knob won't turn any more in the correct direction. Also verifiable when the image is the largest.

    FFP scopes: same as you.

Most of the stuff gear reviewers whine about is bullshit when you get real. Double that for optics.

One size does not fit all and there is often more than one good ways of doing things. I use SFP scopes and dial magnification (like you do) and only look at the magnification if I'm ranging....even then it's calibrated at full out so I just turn it till it stops.

Not really worried about reviews. Most of them are paid for anyway and most scope reviews have done me no good at all.

Too each his own. Use what works.
