Ok work with me here for a moment.
So in general I am a tolerant and likeable guy.
For the most part if I am having a discussion with you (or anyone) and it gets a little heated I am confident enough in my man hood to stop, agree and walk away.
If you want to think 22lr is an excellent gun for bears, great I am not going to get killed using one like that. So why should I give a fuck if you do.
Also for the most part you are never going to convince someone of almost anything, they have to convince themselves.
So I normally dont get into online fights.
But today I earned a merrit badge.
I hurt a liberals feelings and had my Twitter account shut down for about 8 hours. I got reported and was accused of being a Russian spy-bot (what ever they called it).
With that I think I had a little moment of clarity.

The peak murder/crime rate in this country was in the mid 90's. I remember as a teenager/ young adult (80s-90's)Watching the news and hearing the DC was the murder capital of the USA. I remember hearing about a lot of crime.
Well about the mid 90's states like Florida, Texas, Utah started relaxing concealed carry laws (with a permit) and crime started dropping. Other states joined in and 20 years latter here we are. Lowest crime rate, safest we have been in 50 years.
I think there is an obvious correlation.
So during my time out I figure out I was arguing with a 28-30 year old.
A person born 1988ish until now would not have understood how bad crime was when they were 7-10 years old. They just dont understand.
Most of our argument was the other twitter person believed that there had never been a more dangerous time in the USA.
After I linked a bunch of FBI crime stats is when I got "banned". I guess Russian trolls quote FBI stats a lot.
Anyway, that is something we are fighting. If they have not lived it, they can not understand it.
(I will clean this up later, easier on a PC)
My $0.02 for the day.

AJ, you didnt even tell anyone how to shop......

2A, I hear ya. They are everywhere. I dont Twit as I would lose my mind.
My work is saturated with commie idiots. I speak up frequently when they are spewing incorrect information and correct them.
They have no clue about the Constitution or how the real world works.

Arguing with socialist/leftist tards is not productive in any means. The amount of energy you spend in trying to reason with them, you can use it for far more productive things, like buying beer.

It's more than "they have not lived it." It's the 24 hr news cycle. Even older people think that we are living in the most dangerous time in the history of the US. Every day it seems someone is shooting up a school, mosque, synagog, church, stadium, concert, Post Office, whatever. Crime was worse 30 years ago, but the news was at 6 and 10. Now we have "the news" 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, piped in from the TV, radio, computer, and cell phone. You can even buy paper printed with information/entertainment on it.

Consuming beer.......but that makes me a knuckle dragging troglodyte, doesn’t it ? (Thorny crown accepted)

Yup. It’s pretty bad. I’ve personally noticed that people that were buying into the “we don’t need 30 rounds to hunt” crap were repeating certain key phrases. It then became obvious they were hearing these key phrases from the media. It was possibly easier for me to notice as at the time I was watching literally zero tv. Some people are just too brainwashed

I finally threw in the towel on TV. It used to be that you’d have a little luck finding something halfway acceptable, so you’d tolerate the endless barrage of commercials. Now, there just isn’t anything on that’s worth watching and having to sit through all the bullshit commercials for. It’s just terrible, all the way around.

Oh I love most all you guys especially you @ArmyJerry. We have some great conversations. And hell we have most the problems of the world figured out, if only we were in charge!
I did not start twitter until after the Florida high school shooting this year.
As I stated, I normally don't get into it. I couldn't help myself today.
The problem here is it is like preaching to the choir. Social media is where our enemies are, I would highly suggest all you old farts come up to speed just a bit. I refuse to have, Facebook or Instagram (which is also Facebook).
You get a good picture of the other side. The only other thing you could do is infiltrate their forums and that seems even more futile to me.
98% of the time i am just an observer. Interesting to watch.

You're a good man, Gunga-Din.

The problem is, these youngsters nowadays are educated by similar-thinking youngsters, and their 'history' is so short that they don't know what "long term memory" is. Most don't read anymore, either.

And they sure-as-hell have no interest in actual History classes, if there even are any of them anymore. And don't get me started on "professional tradesmen" either, cause anything you needs done nowadays can simply be googled, then ewe-tubed, and then your certifiable too.

I seen't it on the innerwebz.

I learned many years ago about the phrase "Happy as an Ethiopian with a bowl of rice." Thing is though, you show that same Ethiopian what life is like here for us in the Western Hemisphere,,,,, is that bowl of rice still going to make that Ethiopian happy?

That same mantra applies to this, too. (c'mon, tell you don't remember Archie Bunker's offspring (sorta) going onandonandonandonandon about how things are/were "over there".

So, you can home-school your own kids, and your family (and us) will be the better for it. Because you taught them how to think and do things properly (see what I did there?) But can you home-school ALL the neighbor-kids?

So again, how does this get fixed?

I got rid of cable about 18 months ago now. Ive never had instagram or twitter. I finally gave up on Facebook about a year ago. Im 40 years old now and realize i dont need any of them. I dont need to see what my friends are having for breakfast and i am a lot less stressed then i was before when all of that "doom and gloom" was in my everyday life. Im finishing up nursing school currently and have 2 years left in the Army. I feel a lot bettet. My blood pressure has come down and the family actually talks to each other versus just staring into our phones and such. To hell with all the media and media outlets these days.

I admit sometimes I will say a little stuff to get you guys going but I never argue because I am just kidding (anything contrarian makes me laugh) and am supposed to be here learning stuff not riling up people (cough, cough "Fad" thread guy)

That said, I lost my Facebook password a decade ago and really that's been awesome. They won't reset it without a fax of my drivers license. So fuck that I guess.

I never understood the appeal of Twitter, but that's because I understand basic computer science. I couldn't imagine a worse possible way to express myself or communicate with others.

Self-published books suck ass. I worked at a printing press, I made them, the authors all suffered from delusions of talent, and they all lost all of their money. Mom cannot buy 1500 copies of "Night of the Gun"

Your online life is one long never ending self-published book. The dinks in silicon valley found a way to make money off your book, but you didn't.

So that's why I don't post anything except here, because Frank has neither the time nor desire to fuck us that hard. So enjoy my dog pics and bad jokes they're on the house :)

Blah blah youngsters blah blah

There are a whole lot of old hippys/socialists/communists. Who do you think is brainwashing the kids? Who do you is voting for all the turds? Young people don't vote much.

I'm tired of hearing about "young people". Old people voted in all this crap, let all this crap happen and let the education systems get taken over.

If old people would have raised their kids better and had more than 0-2 we wouldn't be in this mess

If you would have said women I would have agreed with you. Women voting put us on the fast track to bad politicians and communism. Voting with emotion and a nurturing instinct doesn't end well

It's just as bad when some youngster says what a horrible president Reagan was.
They've never seen double digit mortgage rates, gas stations running out of gas, or any number of other things before him.

I remember every single one of them

I also remember when going out at night in Miami Beach was literally like walking into war zone.

Hey man, I was only a very short time lurker before I joined here. The first people I spoke to here was ArmyJerry, W54/XM-388, Deersniper, etc.. and it took me less than a microsecond to see how cool you all are. I am an Arfcommer and TFL'er and this place sits about in the middle of the action. It has the fun, hustle and bustle of Arfcom but still retains the corrugated tin roof mellow atmosphere of a country bar.

This is how I describe it: Arfcom is a large city, SH is a moderate city and TFL is the engineering university. Speaking of commie trolls like a lot of posters have been mentioning, Arf gets a shit ton of them. Because the place is so large, some of these shitheads get away with their shenanigans, although they are quickly singled out and clowned and ridiculed like hell. TFL simply does not provide any venue for possible trollfests. There is no politics talk, just mean and gruff business about guns. I would say that it would be quite hard for assclowns to infiltrate SH because of the small town atmosphere that I mentioned earlier. Even though we get a lot of traffic here too, we are all easily identified by our individual posting styles. I already know how those in my inner circle posts and folks are familiar with how I post too. If someone WERE to come here spewing some shit about the ethereal unicorn poop wonders of Marxism, we'd all firemission each other and respond to the scene right quick :ROFLMAO:

I never correct the left. I prefer them to be wrong, and assailable later.

You will never change the thinking of the shitbird you confront but that person that "lurks" or fence sits will come down on the side of the reasonable, factual argument.
Yep. Exercised that yesterday.
Pulled a Ron White like moment at the bar in a wing place. Like Ron says, “I had the right to remain silent but didn’t have the ability”
Old guy sat next to me. (I can say that, I’m older too body wise, mentally I’m about 18)I’m drinking a coke and eating wings minding my own business. He starts yapping. Trump, guns, etc. It was like listening to a blend of MSM.
I finally had enough.
Gave him one of those “really? Why don’t you walk me through that?” Then he tried to talk over my rebuttal. I told him I gave him the courtesy of listening to his point, he could at least do the same for me. After a couple minutes, he lit into guns. I spoke then two guys at a table right behind us came in on my side. (Lots of extra chairs and tables due to filling up at the holiday) It was pretty cool. Before I left we ended with 6 or 8 guys having a pretty good talk. The lib got awful quiet when he figured out he was surrounded and didn’t originally know it.

This is why we are where we are.

We have suffered fools kindly.

Our efforts to not be confrontational, be polite, turn the other cheek, not be rude, have backfired on us.

I find it difficult to interject and get involved in these conversations. I just want to be left alone and leave others alone.......

but it has to be done.

Thank you!

I bet those other guys now have some pumped up balls and will do similar to what you did next time.

You may have shut the lib down for an extended period of time. They tend to be full of wind and feelings and when you release that wind and hurt their feelings they go away.

Social media isn't real life. Yet. As survival skills and common sense are slowly killed off by unnaccomplished millenials looking to lower standards to make them look good it will become more and more of a reality.

Keep up on your facts-i.e. logic and you'll always be good to go.

Oh-and keep buying ammo-copyright ArmyJerry.
