Picked up my first Nightforce scope. It's an NXS 3.5-15x50 without ZeroStop. Now I just need rings...

I stuck a level on my rail though, and noticed there's a slight dip in the center... Unless there's something that can be done about that, it looks like I'll probably have to lap my rings when I get them, though I'll for sure throw the alignment bars in there to see if I actually have to worry about it or not.

Re: I got it...

Well the rail wont be level as its 20MOA its canted it should be higher at the back then closer to the muzzle. Thats how it is supposed to be. If you can get a picture showing the dip I am sure we can give you a better idea of whats wrong.

Re: I got it...

well no shit it won't be level... but the point is there is an ever so slight bend in it. throw a straight edge on it and there's a gap in the middle while contacting the edge on both ends of the rail. I don't know how much more clearly that can possibly be stated.

You probably shouldn't have used the word "level" . The descriptor should have been FLAT. That would have avoided all confusion. Jus Sayn !

Re: I got it...

Sounds like you need to bed the base to the receiver. Loosen up the rear screws and see if there is a gap under the base. If not try the front. Lots of info here to see how to do it.

He was using a level as a straight edge. He never once said anything about it being level.

Re: I got it...

Mitch, I did the checks for that. There was no gap under the rail. if there had been, torquing it down would have bowed it out rather than give me a slight (barely noticeable, but there) dip over the ejection port.
Like I said, I'll check with alignment bars once I get rings to see what the issue really is, and I'll probably end up lapping my rings.

yeah, probably not... I forget that most people don't actually read every written word.

Or just get a one piece mount like an AI. The shape of the rail isn't going to matter then.

Re: I got it...

Joe, you want to spend the extra money on it and give it to me, you do that. But for me, the rail is brand new and I intend to work with it as is. I have money going enough ways that buying ANOTHER new mount is out of the question. I'll buy rings and lap if necessary.

Re: I got it...

I'm talking about a picatinny (or dovetail, you didn't specify) mount that fits on your existing NF mount.

The AI mount is not much more expensive than a good set of rings.

I always opt for a one piece mount over rings.
