I've been to Israel as well. They are good militarily for a middle eastern country, they generally suck when compared to a decent western country. They have the luxury of fighting idiots, illiterates and cowards. They have a large communist population from eastern Europe, they do steal property from Palestinians and they have been stealing land, homes and farms from them since their inception. The openly discriminate against Arab-Israeli citizens in all sorts of ways, including denying them the right to self defense. They openly discriminate against Ethiopian Jews.
The Israelis we worked with made sure we were treated second class. We were not invited to eat with them, Jews first then everyone else. They asked us to refrain from chatting up the single ladies. They did not like anyone of color from our group. They explained the crappy things they do to non-Jewish people with a strange sense of pride. When it came to arranging a dinner out or some tourist crap, they all profited on kick backs and by splitting the amount they over charged us with managers of various establishments, usually openly. I guess they felt since we didn't speak the language we were unaware of their schemes.

It's the problem with the entire West. Ever since WWII Europeans (French), always masters of diplomacy, have been reformulating world thought to make weakness strength, and strength weakness. It was the only road back to power. Now that exists everywhere in the West, and our enemies use it against us time and again. Look at Iraq and Afghanistan for Christ's sake.
