I have a New Savage .338 w/safety problems???

I went out and shot today. First round went downrange. Second round was loaded and the silver part on the Accutrigger would not move to let me fire? I figured out that the safety button was getting stuck in the middle of On/Off safety. When I would push the bolt forward to load a round, the safety button would move ahead just a little to the middle and then the issue with the trigger would come up. This would not happen all the time, I guess it would only happen when it was on safe while loading a round. If it was on fire, it would already be all the way forward and it would not happen? Anybody out there that this is happening to? Thanks!

Having a little bit of trouble understanding what exactly is happening. You chamber a round and then can't fire. So what are you doing to fix it? Does resetting the safety to "fire" allow you to fire again? Or do you have to open the bolt and essentially re-cock the bolt?

What is your trigger pull set to? If it is too low, closing the bolt aggressively will jar the rifle and cause the trigger to fire, which in turn will engage the safety aspect of the accutrigger to prevent discharge. This in effect locks up the trigger and I believe the only way to unlock it is to lift the bolt handle in order to re-cock the weapon. Try closing the bolt very slow and very gently. If this cures it then test it further by gently closing the bolt again and then smacking the bolt handle or jarring the rifle in some way. If jarring the rifle causes it to lock again then your problem is overly light trigger pull. All this testing can be done at home with an empty chamber through dry firing.

Pretty sure thats what is happening. Had it happen before.

Tacblade,
The accu-trigger is doing what it was designed to do and that is prevent the firing pin from moving forward when you don't want it to.

Did you recently adjust your stock bolts? this can sometimes happen with the cheaper plastic stocks. It sounds like the trigger is dragging a bit or the spring is set too low. In any case, you need to take the action out of the stock, clean the trigger and observe what it's doing.

the Savage uses a 3 position safety, all the way to the rear is safe w/ the bolt locked, middle is safe w/ the bolt unlocked, forward is fire...

I'm somewhat unclear as to what is happening...

but if you're loading the rifle on safe, it has to be in the middle position...

alternately, you could have your trigger adjusted too light, which will lock up the accutrigger, which is what it sounds like, since you said that the blade won't move... if it was the safety, the blade would still move.

The trigger was set to light. I gave it one full turn and everything is good. I went to the Savageshooter forum and this topic was right at the top. Sounds like several people are running into this. Its just a matter of not turning the adjustment screw on the Accutrigger to low. With the one full turn, the pull weight is still pretty good, although I donot have a trigger pull gauge. Thanks!

Glad you figured it out.
