I was cutting a bolt handle to install a Badger knob for a customer and found the usual porosity so I decided to try something different(although not original) and cut the shank off, drilled into the arm of the bolt handle, turned a stud and silver soldered it into place, very solid and it really wasn't that much more work.

The stud idea is what I'm doing as well. Not sure if I'm going to solder or tig it on yet.
