I need another solvent besides Boretech

Re: I need another solvent besides Boretech

If you can't find it locally, see if anyone has any Butch's Bore Shine. If not that...you can always order it (this is what I generally have to do because all of my local shops suck the Big One unless I want to drive an hour to Cabelas and pay their prices plus gas in the gas guzzler)!!

MidwayUSA (among others) carry a full line of Bore Tech, Butch's, Montana Extreme, etc., etc. See here for the Bore Tech Eliminator:

Good luck!!

Butch's does the job.. if the smell doesn't kill ya. I take a wiff of Hoppies to bring me back to a level state of consciousness.

Effective bore cleaning:

Patch of rubbing alcohol. Dry patch.

Patch of Kroil. Dry patch.

Patch of rubbing alcohol

Patch of household Ammonia. Wait a minute. Dry patch.

Patch of alcohol. Dry patch.

Patch of light Kroil. Put the gun up.

Dry patch before shooting. Shoot.

Stop buying expensive cleaners, but if you must, use TM Solution.

Re: I need another solvent besides Boretech

I take butch's and sweets .... Mix them together and put it in a dried out eye solution bottle. Then I put it in the freezer for a day and it makes it real "gel like". After that just keep it in a SAFE place that is refrigerated and it will stay thick. Then just run a patch down your bore, let sit about 5 mins , clean and your ready to shoot. Best part is that it doesn't take hardly any time and you keep your cleaning solvents alot longer.

Re: I need another solvent besides Boretech

Shooters choice for cleaning.
Sweets for copper.
JB bore paste for stuff 1&2 don't remove.

Because I spent alot of money on a gun and they recommend a break in procedure.

Well played,
but if you must ... TM Solution.

Re: I need another solvent besides Boretech

Do NOT mix Shooters Choice with Sweets because it will etch your barrel. Use Shooters copper solvent if using Shooters Choice.

Re: I need another solvent besides Boretech

The KG products are the best I have ever used. Check out KG Copper Solvent and Carbon solvent. Awesome products and you don't need to use a respirator to use em in your garage.

Re: I need another solvent besides Boretech

Hoppes Copper and Powder worked well for me when I broke in my GAP barrel. Most match grade barrels these days don't need break in so your GAP barrel will "break in" with minimal effort.

A 50/50 concoction of Kroil and Hoppes Powder works well with JB Bore Paste for me also. But I've only used this to refresh neglected service rifle barrels though.

The GAP break in is mainly out of principal not necessity. I wouldn't get too wrapped around it.
