Well the gunsmith has all my parts now and is going to start the build process

But he told me to take 3 of my shells and do a trim and full length resize of them and he will make the barrel match that. So my question is,

I have a set of REDDING Type S Match Die Set for the .308 the gunsmith told me to resize my brass and do a full length case resize. My question is I'm new to reloading is there a spacific way to set up those resizing dies? I wanted to resize them them weekend so I can take to him Monday so he has them! Sinclair won't be open to ask so I'm hoping you guys can help me out? I don't want to screw this up as once he makes the cuts in the barrel that's the way it will be

I doubt very much that your smith is going to spend a couple of hundred bucks to have a reamer ground to your cases specs, and thats the only way that I know of to chamber your barrel to match the cases. I would think turbo hit the nail on the head when he said you may indeed need a new smith.

Confused might be the case he told me to go home trim and full length resize 3 cases for him as he needed the measurements from those cases to do what ever he has to do to the barrel. Maybe I'll call him today again in this area I've talked to lots of guys that shoot high end guns and he came highly recommended from all.

He also added that there won't be allot of case expansion and my brass will last longer, and cleaning will be more important and told me about a guy similar situation that couldn't get a bullet to feed properly and he brought that round and gun over and Mike cleaned it and bullet went in as it was suppose to.... Guy felt pretty stupid I guess!!! So you could be right I might be missing something...

He did say he needed the case head space measurements and he mentioned something about reamers but I really don't remember what! We talked about benchrest shooters and overall accuracy! So with him saying my brass won't grow allot and will last longer sounded like the barrel was going to match my cases and resizing process! Like I said early on I'm learning and was looking for a little direction!

Re: I Need Some Direction!

I make my dies with the same reamer that I chamber with and I see some sense to that, if he can do what he says he can, although I dont see how without having a reamer ground, your brass will last a lot longer if you dedicate brass to one barrel only. He would still have to know what the neck diameter of a loaded ctg. will be if he wants to cut the neck of the chamber a spacific amount over a loaded rounds neck. If that is done you would have to use the same brass in that barrel. if a different lot of brass was used and the neck wall thickness was greater then the brass he used as a guage, the new brass would have to be neck turned to match the chamber or you might run into some serious pressure problems.

Yes, hand the smith a box of (unfired) FGMM 175 and tell him to fit these to the barrel.

There are ways to set up dies and seaters to do the above, but a box of unfired FGMM 175 is, for all intents and pusposes, just as good.
