I have a problem, the slide lock on my Beretta 96 FS has broke off flush with the frame while at the range with a friend.

this is a pic of the lock after the last round was fired.

this is what I found when I got home to get a closer look
the question is is this something I can fix or do I need to take it to a smith?

Re: I need some help here

It's actually a common problem with the stainless slide stops. They had some improper heat treating that made them a bit brittle. I'd suggest a Bruniton replacement (non stainless). This was more common about 4 or 5 years ago. How old is the gun?

See if you can get the stub out by tapping the frame on something like a phone book. Inertia often gets the stub out enough to grab it with pliers.

It's easily to replace. The trick is to put the spring on the side stop, insert the leg of the spring into the frame, then insert the slide stop into the frame.

The part is cheap, I'd recommend getting it from Dave:

If you want the same part that broke, then yes, SD-011 is the part you're looking for.
