Rifle Scopes I need some help ranging with a Huskemaw Blue diamond scope

I am trying to get some help with ranging through the Huskemaw reticle. What I have done so far to test the reticle is set up my stuff 500yrds out and verify it with laser rangefinder as well as mil dot. I have a full size IPSCs as well as a 36"x36" target. I used the reticle as it states in the manual and I can get the 30" mark in the reticle to match up with the full size IPSC and the magnification ring lines up with about 500yrd mark, without touching the magnification ring I can try and line up the 36" target and its quite a bit larger. I can adjust the focus adjustment and get closer but not good enough. If I am thinking about this correctly I can set the focus and mark it then figure out my own scale for the reticle but I hope I'm just doing something wrong. Any help or experience would be nice.

I don't know these scopes at all, but what do you mean by "500yd magnification setting"? Shouldn't the scale work for properly for one magnification setting across the board like other BDC style SFP scopes? Nightforce does it well enough with their Velocity reticles on SFP NXS scopes, but you have to be on a specific setting for it to apply properly, otherwise it will be off.

I'll just say this is further proof why I use MIL/MIL and FFP scopes. I'm too busy looking at the wind and parallax to worry what my magnification setting is.

Basically you turn the magnification ring till the reticle meets the size of the object. Once it's matched then you look at the magnification ring and it has a scale on it that represents yardage. Yes the scale should work across the board, but it doesnt for me. I'm not super happy with that feature but otherwise for what I normally use the scope for (pig hunting), I'm good. Waiting to see what people say about the beast then I won't worry about it anymore. Just trying to learn as much as I can on what I have.

A typical SFP scope is set for ranging at the highest power so if you mean by "focus adjustment" you mean the "power" that provides the most clarity that is where your error lies. If your Huskemaw is set to range as most SFP scopes are at MAX then you would have to convert for the percentage of max power you are using.

For example, with a 5 x 25 power scope set at 20 X you would have to adjust your reticle by 1.25 (25/20) so with your reticle a 36" target would only show as a 29" target (36/1.25 = 28.8, etc.) I'm not familiar with your scope so I am not certain at what magnification your reticle is calibrated but my guess is that is why it is not matching up. Hope it makes sense, good luck!
