Ok heres the deal. I like the .223 remington round but its only good out to 500 yards. But i wanna go to 1000 yards. I know the .223 can go to 1000 yards but the ballistics arnt up to par. But i jest cant convince myself of the cost to get all the stuff i need to reload and convert my savage to a 308 win. Or maybe im going at it all wrong and should go for something like a 260 remington???? Could i get someone to tell of the advantage of converting my savage from .223 to 308. Or should i go the .260 remington route. Can i also get the advantages the a 308 has over a .223 remington.

Thanks.

If you want the "tacticool" effect of saying its a .308 then go for it. The reason the .308 is what it is in todays military is because it has less recoil. It allowed the military to keep the 30 cal. round, with a tradeoff in ballistics and longer barrel life. Not that it isnt a good long range round, but there are definately better. .260 rem, 6.5 creedmoore, 6.5x47 lapua, and a few other non-magnum rounds are the main trend in long range calibers. They are all short-action based, ballisticly superior to the .308. If your only choices are 260 or 308 I choose the 260.

If you want to run with a 308, although it can be done, I am not convinced that converting your 223 to 308 is the way to go. For the same or less $$$, I would consider another rifle in 308. I see some great deals here on Savage at times, selling for a lot less than what it cost to build them.

Srry bout no odd balls like AIs or Creedmores or that 6mm lapua thing. im jest thinking 308 or 260 remington. but it looks like im going with the 260 cause of the ballistics and the avaliabilty of bullets.

The 6.5 Creedmoor is not an odd ball. It's an available off the shelf factory loading which is accurate and priced well for factory match ammo at about $24/20. You can also reload it the same way as a .260 as it uses the same powders and bullets. Just so you know.

What Rob01 said.
Plus, if you reload, there's no such a thing of Odd Ball.
The most annoying task that might be required (not in the 6.5mm CM case though) in some cases, would be fire-forming brass. This is the most "Odd Ball" you might get, if you reload.

Re: i need yall convincing here on a build.

The 6.5 creedmoor also is shorter which allows you two reach the lands and fit the mag box. The 260 is limited buy case overall lenth to fit the mag box and reach the lands. I had this very problem the gun would shoot great with a bullet seated out to the lands but would not fit the mag box for hunting.
