I pulled my kid out of public school

You are better than me. There, I said it.
Not joking either. Fuck that. Can't do it.

We both work, and make a lot of money, and neither of us have it in us to try and teach our kids full school. I'm teaching them all the time and they're listening and absorbing, but that last semester last year 'bout kilt us. It honestly hurt my relationship with my kids. Some kids you can set the lesson in front of them and they'll knock it out, but mine I had to fight tooth and nail the whole way. Can't do it again. Can't. They HAVE to go back to school!
That's where you are wrong I'm not better than you or anyone else, my wife and I just looked at what was going on in the public school system and said fuck that, this was 25 years ago. And we made the decision to make a few sacrifices for our kids and made them our priority. I make a decent living not wealthy by any stretch but the wife quit her job to teach the kids full time. Sure I did not have a new truck every few years or get the rifle I always wanted or any of the shit we wanted but really din't need, just had to wait until the kids were grown and gone for that. We have had a good life and really never went without anything. I think the wife and I would agree we made the right decision to make our kids the priority. Especially today public schools are a cluster fuck.

To say every home schooled kid is socially awkward is just pure bullshit, its what the public schools want you to believe so you will send your kids to them for the indoctrination to stat in kindergarten. My three youngest kids were all home schooled and they are now all smart well adjusted productive adults that think for themselves without all the socialist bullshit pounded into them for 12 years. It's not easy and takes one hell of a lot of hard work and commitment but in my mind it was worth every minute for my kids to become adults that think for themselves. Public schools don't teach kids what they need to know to be productive members of society, shit I know kids that graduated from high school that cant even balance a checkbook, they're just taught the socialist agenda. You get out of your kids what you put into them and my kids are worth the effort.

Also have 3 boys and God willing more to come. Homeschooling since beginning. Know a TON of home schooling families in the commune. ALL super awesome. The kids will be the same as the parents which is ideal. My wife paid more in taxes than I made with annual bonus more than I made... and we are both EXCEEDINGLY happy she quit to home school.

We pay the bills with God have never been happier.

Buying new Mercedes?? cant think of anything more selfish if that's a priority over raising your kids. Take offense if you want it is what it is. And I like you Fig. Sacrifice being key. Not preaching to you just stating my opinion fwiw but the world puts income/$$$ above all else..even the most important thing of raising our future generation. rant over lol...

NOTHING good comes from public schools.
Your kids fight you and your expectations while teaching them?? welcome to real life. better now with you (who love them) than the world later (who hates them) when they are "peaceful protestors" because it was easy and their BS teachers told them to.

schools:
-no accountability
-no discipline
-indoctrination
-sex education with no signoffs/notifications from parents
-gender equality
-communism
-bought and paid for teaching corriculem (sp) that is fuked (ie common core and now eliminating changing history)
-RAMPANT pornography/sex/drugs/rape
-bullying
-lies
-stealing
-cheating
-etc etc could go on all day...and that was when I was in school 20 ys ago. lol.

We all die. At the end of the day can you say, I was a man and I put God and others before myself....I sure hope I can.

YMMV

The down side of home schooling is tou are setting your kids up for failure. They will be outcast to the indoctrinated sheep and have to deal with the masses who are clueless.

I think you missed my point. The Mercedes comment was only to put into perspective how expensive this private school is going to be for my family every year. I’m very frugal. I haven’t bought a new car since I was 25. I don’t waste my hard earned money. I invest it, which is why I’m not poor.

I spent my money buying this house and moving into the school district in which I reside. At the time it was a big stretch. In other words, I live in an expensive house in the ritz part of town FOR the schools. There is no way I’d be here spending this kind of money just because it’s nice. Now I have to pay for private... So be it. I’m in a better spot ten years later.
I reject the choice of financial independence OR good education for my kids. I want and deserve both, and clearly I’m willing to sacrifice for it. If it wasn’t possible we would do what we must even if it came to teaching them ourselves. Homeschooling was the best choice you had. This is the best choice I have.

I’m not throwing rocks at your choices or Homeschooling. My lament is for people who don’t have choices, which I assure you is the vast majority of people. Most of my friends are in my shoes and, but after spending lots of money to get into this district they can’t afford private, and they HAVE to go to work. We had dinner with some parents on Saturday night. If they don’t go to work 80 people loose their jobs. Think about that. It’s bad if you are the breadwinner. It’s way worse if a hundred bread winners are relying on you. I don’t know if you understand what kind of weight that is?

My wife is a big deal. She keeps it running for over a thousand employees. She was tearing her hair out last year. We‘re not dumb. We’re just not equipped to teach school to our own kids. Our skill sets are not suited. I could teach your kids much more easily than my own. It may be because they are used to school and not homeschool. I don’t know, but it didn’t work last year, and it has to work, period. This is our choice, and although I’m relieved I ache for all our friends who now are going to have kids at home because there’s no school. Full virtual wasn’t school last year, and we believe it will suck just as much this year, because they wasted all their time comming up with plans that now don’t apply, and the teachers are essentially striking.

Well, all four of my boys were in private school last year. Just pulled them out for the semester. Wifey is gonna home school and we'll travel a bit...get them out into the country and teach things like personal finance and history of the constitution. I figure what we'll save in tuition we can spend on a RV and some travel expenses.

While we don't have to deal with the liberal agenda being forced on kids in public school, I didn't see a point in paying the money to have them wear a mask and not have any chance of enjoying themselves in school. Lunch at their desks, no recess, limited physical activity, teachers with face guards on, plastic barriers everywhere. Fuck all that nonsense.

now, you are super dad.
go dude go

I'm sorry and not trying to be an asshole but this statement is just plain ignorant and stupid, my adult home schooled kids are very productive members of this country and none of them have failed at life, they are more productive and have done a lot more to better themselves than most of the public school indoctrinated kids they grew up with. This setting your kids up for failure bullshit is nothing more than school district government propaganda to get $$$ from parents to have kids in public school.

youre a super dad to bro, hell, lots of em, here

I know a lot of folks who went the private school route.

So much more social stuff for kids doing that than there was 20 yrs ago. Besides all the online/phone social crap kids do these days.

I also noticed kids were more a product of their environment.
Parents who were real wacko had real wacko kids. From the hyper religious type to the nutty leftists to the germaphobes all raised kids with issues.

I like the co-op idea
This has become my take on things as well. I used to believe that all home schooled kids were awkward. But, then I realized it had more to do with the parents, specifically the more devout religious ones. I will readily admit that a lot of the stuff kids are into is a waste of time imo but, (for example) when a group of 12 year olds are talking about their favorite baseball player, band, tv show, etc and all the home schooled kid has to contribute is his/her favorite chapter and verse, it’s gonna be real hard for that kid to blend.

A lot of younger kids that are playing sports at a very high level are home schooled now because it provides them with so much more flexibility. Most school days can be finished in 2-3 hours when the teacher isn't trying to teach 30 kids. This allows the kids to go to private lessons on virtually any day and at any time. Their friend groups end up being more diverse because they're playing one or multiple sports with kids from different schools and backgrounds.

Where I live the local school district gets X amount of $$ from the gov for every kid in school, these school districts don't give a shit about your kids, they don't want you to home school or send your kids to private schools, why do you think they fight charter schools so hard. They want kids in public school because it's all about the $$, how do you think they pay for these new multi million dollar schools. I'm in commercial construction and just built a new $25,000,000.00 elementary school first thru fifth grades, yes that's 25 million dollars and it had only 18 classrooms WTF, all the high tech bs for what, they don't teach the stuff that means anything, history, what you need to know to to survive in the world and be a good citizen. Don't have kids in school anymore and it just chaps my ass to pay a quarter or more of my property taxes for worthless schools I don't even use.

Never did I mean to imply that there is no upside to home schooling. I was merely addressing the stereotypes of the “awkward home school student”.
But, I would spin your post another way. It’s not that home schooled kids are excelling at sports, rather, exceptional young athletes are home schooling. There is a nuance there that I think is important to point out.

Don’t GAF anyway. My priorities couldn’t be clearer, and I’m good with that. I’m mostly sad for all the families who have no choice and have to be held hostage by a terrorist teachers union. I’m my own boss and can be flixible. WTF do people do who have to go to work? Leave the kids to remote learn by themselves? That shit didn’t work for us when we were there (real boys).
I’m just sharing because I know it’s a friendly audience. God help the liberal moron who starts defending this shit, because I’m going to be a first class asshole.
Kids ask me why I’m so angry all the time, stomping around and muttering to myself. Well, now you know. ;)

This is my exact thought??? How are we as parents supposed to work full-time and be a teacher full-time! Luckily my wife and I work for the same company and they let us split the week up so someone was always with the kids. However, if our employer had not catered to that, I'm not sure we would have been able to continue on with the school year. Either they start paying us the teacher salaries or the kids need to go back into school.

I think you missed my point. What i was trying to convey is that they will be actually educated and not just a sheep. Dealing with the lemming will be taxing since they haven't been fed a diet of liberal lies.
I am all for home schooling. Thats the only way tour kids will get a good education.

I’m in the best public school district in St. Louis by performance and academics. Two years ago the did an $80M renovation of the high school. It is now a superior facility to when I went to college. Over the top.

1. We got a letter saying the district is all in on BLM. That set off all the alarms and we started applying and taking entrance exams. No one is teaching my kid to be a racist. Shit would get real for them.
2. The way they’ve led us on with survey after survey and lied and failed to plan for a total shutdown/virtual was unconscionable. It is absolutely clear to me they never intended to have school.
3. I don’t have grade schoolers, but last week the teachers union informed the superintendent they would not report to work. Essential? Guess not. Fuck them
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not bellyaching. I’ve been terribly comfortable and will continue to be in spite of having to buy a new Mercedes every year
$25k/per kid means sacrifices. Bye bye trips, shooting, really everything since this won’t end for me for 10 years.

Good for you @Fig. I pulled one of mine out at fifth grade, and homeschooled him via connections academy until he finish the 10th grade. He then returned to high school and took nothing but AP classes his 11th and 12th grade. It was hard, but I am damn happy that I did it. Connections Academy is accredited, and in Missouri it should be paid for through the state (ie. It should not cost you a dime). Look up Connections Academy online, and give them a call if you have questions.

While we are duscussing Missouri, you should be thinking about contributing to the MOST program for each of your kids. Ours are both out of college now, but the money we put into the Missouri MOST program actually increased in value, so it saved us some dollars when they went to college. YMMV, but we have no regrets.

I got my teaching certification in Business Education a few years ago on a whim. I started in the classrooms before my official retirement date. Out here there is far less liberalism in the school staffs. After a year I hung up my hat and work the ranch full time.

I'm starting to wonder about opening up a virtual classroom if things get worse here. Elementary education is a simple test or two away, and the good Lord blessed me with the ability to pass those without studying.

English?...Screw it. Math?...Nah. evey class will be either Civics or Economics! We will relentlessly study the Constitution and Bill of Rights, followed by the free market system. Hahahaha!

We’re in a similar situation, but centered on the Wuhan Flu. We were prepared to send our kids to private. Our city schools are top tier, with property taxes and home values to match.

Our school system thankfully didn’t completely bow to the bureaucratic pressure and our kids will be in full time, in person school. We fought, called, and emailed our local and state representatives to fight the liberal county health officer‘s overreaching effort to shut down our city schools. A very vocal minority of concerned were pushing to keep kids at home virtually learning....Even though they have a choice to keep their kids at home and we can choose to send ours in person. Damned Karens.... The more I observe these pro shutdown folks, the more evidence I find that their entire reaction to the pandemic is politically focused.

Just understand if you haven’t already that the left is your enemy.

I used to have more pity for the Fellow Travelers and Useful Idiots that continue being manipulated, but not so much the past decade or two...

You can teach your children the principles at home so then they can recognize the liberal bullshit at school. They can still receive a very good education using these useless liberal asshats. My daughter spent alot of time in the principles office because she stood her ground standing up for Veterans, Military, politics and life, I always gave her a pass because it was for a good cause. Same held true for college which was like a war zone for conservatives , she learned to walk the land mines and received a degree in engineering. After 17 years of schooling the liberals were unsuccessful of breaking her and brainwashing her, so I believe the parents are the key from a very early age of preventing this from happening.

My kids did public schools up until the end of 5th grade. Then we put them into a very conservative Catholic school. We're not Catholic, but their politics were more in line with our family. All was well, then they went off to college. That's when some issues started. My daughter was probably the worse. 3 boys and 1 girl and I have trouble out of the girl. She is a conundrum. She is very 2A but she does believe in a lot of progressive issues. I'm still working on her, but it's a task to be sure. She recently broke up with her boyfriend of 6 years, so I'm hoping that he was what was pulling her to the dark side. Parents say they can't wait for their kids to turn 18. They thiink that all of their troubles are over. I gotta say, it doesn't get any easier. Instead of scraped knees and broken bones, you deal with them having REAL adult issues. Give me the scraped knees, if you please.

youre not being held hostage by the teachers union, you are being held hostage by the teachers.
the teachers are the union

I don’t know where you’re at, but as a high school Chemistry and Biology teacher in Florida I know that our unions do not represent the teachers. In fact the vast majority of the teachers I know are generally displeased with their union all over the state, regardless of the side of the isle that they sit on or the issues at hand. Where I’m at the union speaks on behalf of all teachers as our bargaining agreement yet they do everything in their power to make their pockets fat and take from ours. Since becoming a teacher about 15 years ago I have watched my union negotiate to change our 403b contributions go from 6% to 3% to now 1%. In fact after 15 yrs as a highly effective educator and former district supervisor I make only 6k more than when I started. Which is why I’ve witnessed most great teachers leave to pursue other careers.

The hard truth is that conservatives tend to stay clear of education as a career, and this is why education sucks. Before going back to the classroom I worked as a District Science Specialist where I wrote curriculums, trained science teachers, and worked with administrators on what to do to help science teachers. I say this because at the time we were the 16th largest school district in the country and I saw tons of great educators as I supervised 27 high school and 52 middle school science programs and teachers, but the sad truth is they’re overshadowed by outlandish liberals teachers who sucked and are extremely outspoken.

I currently train our local university’s future teachers as a professional development school educator. Senior undergraduate students come to my class to complete an internship before graduating and I can tell you that the students that I work with are pathetic at best. Now I didn’t go to school to be a teacher. I worked as a research scientist who coached high school football and decided I wanted a career change and started teaching. So I can’t compare what I’m currently training from the college to that of previous generations or even what it was like when I was in school because this is a second career. And one that I’m probably a few years away from leaving myself. The classroom today is very different from yesterday’s classrooms when we went to school. I’ve watched great educators walk out because they got tired of dealing with the bs or needed to be able to monetarily survive and couldn’t on their salary. It’s just hard to find quality when there’s little incentive to become an educator. It’s not a bad career out of college for most. But a decade in and you make 2/3k more than you started. Most people who have monetary goals steer clear of the education field. There’s just no growth monetarily as an incentive to stay on top of the asshole kids and parents who think their kids are angels. Trust me my wife was a teacher way before me and I used to make fun of her and say come on babe, it’s just like baby sitting, it’s not that hard. Man was I wrong, and found out the hard way when I changed careers.

I say this because to take back our society it starts at home and continues in school. The reason why I’ve remained a teacher is bc I see how these lib educational systems are indoctrinating kids and I want to try to do my part to present the other side to them and help them choose for themselves, but as a society we have to call out the lies the education systems put out and demand better. These are all things voted on. Trust me I agree no teacher deserves pay without going to work and I want to go to work, same as my wife, but those unions speak for us and my voice means nothing. We have to first vote appropriately and pay attention to the elected school board members and state department of education boards. They are determining what your children learn.

We also need to push for people who are looking to give back in their career who have Solid moral values to give teaching a try, because the current coursework that universities are teaching future educators is some of the most racist crap I’ve ever seen. And it is this racist liberal indoctrination that’s training our teachers and then forcing it down the throats of our kids.

In fact I will attach a picture of just one of hundreds of examples of what universities are teaching these future teachers.

I will say I got a good public education.

I learned that the government is biased, corrupt and incompetent at times and therefore not to be trusted. Some how I think that was not the goal but I am not one to let my learning interfere with my education.

Every homed schooled kid I ever new is socially ackward. That is my concern with that. It follows them into their adulthood.
He's right though I have this home schooled guy at work and he is rather peculiar.

when will teachers begin forfeiting salaries for NOT working? I'd like credit on my tax bill.

ACW39,

Thank you for determination and dedication in what has to be an extremely hostile work environment.

Do you realize that teacher salaries are the smallest part of the cost of education? And that remote teaching is still "working." Teachers are still at work, in the school, accessible to kids and parents through media or the phone, the kids just aren't in the building.

If you don't like it cool. Don't send your kids there. I don't like people getting tax breaks for their kids then complaining about paying some other tax to support schools.

They are present Karen, the kids are not.

Maybe show me in their contract where it said the kids have to be there.

Maybe apply and become the superintendent so you can show them how they should run it.

Looking forward to big Wade's course on the relative merits of rhetoric vs dialogue  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:

My boys are enrolled in a local charter school via MI's "school of choice" program. It's a good school with excellent teachers, and my wife and I are present and active in the classrooms on a regular basis so there aren't any surprises as to what is being taught. They are going back to in-person learning in a couple of weeks, but my wife and I were prepared to relocate if our district had planned to start the year with only distance learning. We're both well-prepared to do homeschooling, but the social aspect of the schooling experience is just as important.

Now, the next step after getting the school year started will be to un-fuck all the various after-school and extracurricular programs. That oughta be a fun way to spend the fall 😡

I think of these issues the same as a slow leak.

One can add air from time to time. Most of the time, the tire runs only partially inflated, but the owners don't need to get up off their butts and actually fix the thing; so they're totally content to 'manage' the leak,.

Meanwhile it also runs hot and can be lethal at higher speeds. They couldn't care less, because they still don't need to get down on that knee and lean into the lug wrench.

Me? I skip the delusional part and get the car to the tire shop.

Hot air is cheap, tire repairs aren't. Only one can actually resolve anything.

Choose.

ACW39,

Thank you for determination and dedication in what has to be an extremely hostile work environment.

I appreciate it! Definitely have a few crazy stories, but all in all it’s good most the time.

In today’s world one of the biggest challenges is trying to get parents and students to understand the value in struggle and productive failure. Every kid wants success and their parents want it for them, but they don’t want to do anything to achieve that success. Society wants to say that teachers don’t teach, or to blame what we teach in school, but as a society we don’t take an active roll in education and take responsibility for our own children. Not excusing the horrible teachers as there are plenty, but this is why we need to become involved in our local education systems and help recruit people with the right characteristics. Otherwise, I promise you we will only become more socialist by the day as the good teachers will continue to leave the profession and more and more looney tunes will take their spot and push these narratives.

I think Mikes idea is solid! Get 5 or 6 kids hire and out of work teacher split the salary cost and go for it. The small class will ensure more one on one maybe have a 6 hour school day. Teacher should love it due to smaller class and no Discipline issues. My .02

Then cut their pay in half. Being present is part of the job. All government workers that aren’t working at full capacity should be penalized financially.

As much as I agree with you, there are plenty of teachers that want to go to work I’m one of them. My wife, sister, and mother in law who’s a principal as well. The problem is without a full teaching staff you can’t do anything.

So those like me who want to work can’t if the school doesn’t have enough staff to open the school, and I’m not sure who you’re going to replace these teachers with. At least where I’m at we have a massive teacher shortage. The average teacher quits in under 2 years. Not fired. Quit. Because no one wants the job. So what we’re left with as options are the vast majority of crap socialist rejects who have a degree and couldn’t get a job in the real world. Sadly, this has become the norm that represents my profession and each year the quality educators either retire or leave in masses. How do you fix education by cutting teacher pay?? You need to demand school board elected officials to do their job bc you elect them. I promise you this, every quality teacher I know is on the verge of leaving the job as it is. Most have advanced degrees in the field they teach with experience and could easily go to another profession for more pay with less stress, but they choose not to because they care about what the future of our society looks like and acts like.

Sadly everyone has their breaking point and when we push good teachers away we’re left with socialist rejects to teach our kids. This is what we have now. We need to take a focused effort in the local education system where we live. Otherwise, the crap education you see will only increase and that doesn’t exclude charter and private schools.

I've seen news reports of teachers' unions threatening to NOT work. Been paying to 'educate'/indoctrinate other people's children for 50 years; none of my own. Believe I have the right to complain.

Complain about what? Paying taxes, yeah you and everyone else.

Why don't you take a 50% cut in pay? I mean, you love your "job" so you should just do it because you love it, right? Do you penalize yourself every time you don't feel productive? ...like when you're on the internet?

Ok, who still gets paid when they decide not to show up for work?
While we’re at it, who gets paid for 12 months of work and only works for nine? Which is it? Why shouldn’t we add 25% when considering theirs salaries?
Who gets to strike while they’re under contract?

Are you a teacher? Are you in the teachers union? Is your wife? How many kids do you now have at home?

You seem to have really strong opinions. This is either not fucking up your life, you are part of it, or you’re defending fucking up mine.

You might find a lot of folks have taken that much or nearly that much of a pay cut recently thanks to the government's stupid actions.
So if you are making half of what you made before, I'm not sure it's unreasonable to suggest the ones that are employed with the tax money the government forces from you each year, should also feel the squeeze. If there are no more "special animals" then there might be a bit more push back this fall when the government goes stupid again.

I know a lot of people that have taken cuts. But, I’m always hearing that teachers need pay cuts. I’m always hearing how an annual salary for them for nine months work is just wrong. Well, look at the overall amount they make. Many start at $20K. I knew a lot of teachers who worked a summer job to make ends meet for the year. I’m not a teacher, but I have a lot of friends and relatives who are, or were. And, this pandemic isn’t permanent. The pay cuts I’m hearing would be if some people had their way.

The bottom line for me on this discussion is I see see this as a continual attack on education here in America. I don’t like everything that gets pushed in schools. That’s why you gotta step up and step in when you have to. When a principle threatened my oldest daughter with suspension, I got him to see it was the turd who hit her in the head with a snowball that was the problem. And a lawsuit against the school... ‘Cuz he knew he was wrong.
Another kid stalked my younger daughter. I shut his oxygen off for a while... He was always a problem, but learned real quick it wasn’t going to go well if dad was going to get involved.
I just don’t see where all the hatred for education comes from.

I’m assuming you haven’t read the thread. What you are talking about is not what we are. Try reading again.

there are many reasons to hate the education system and like individual teachers. You may not be up to date on the political policies these teacher unions are pushing.
Actually I did. I'm talking across the nation, not just St. Louis. I am up to date. That's why I said step up and step in. That is what I did when my kids were in public school. The examples I gave were just two, of many times I stepped in.
You said kids aren't at risk. Maybe not of death, but they are at risk. And, with this virus there are a lot of lingering effects. So, shoving them in a classroom might not be the best idea. Remote learning and open air classrooms would be a better option for a virus like this, but not tenable for the whole year. Some attendance may be required.

Anyhow, that last post was directed at you who think teachers are beneath you. And, need to be personally directed by you. You can bitch all you want, but they are gonna do what they are gonna do, no matter what you say here on this thread.

Yea, that's what this fucking thread is about. How 'bout we get some of those Tokyo subway cops to push the children through the classroom doors so we can pack a few more in? Because, that's what we've been talkign about and planning for ALL FUCKING SUMMER LONG! You really know your shit don't you? Really on-top of current events. Fuck, I wish I had consulted you before pulling my kids out because it's all good, isn't it?

If you're terrified for your kids there isn't a district in the whole fucking country that is not allowing you to fully remote learn! NOT A FUCKING ONE! You're a ridiculous shill throwing out strawmen and platitudes because you don't want YOUR kids going to school you see nothing wrong with preventing MINE from going as well. I wonder if your Second Amendment stance is THAT fucked up as well. If it isn't good for you it's good for nobody!

You clearly don't know what the fuck you're talking about, and are some sort of apologist for hysteria and poor leadership. I'm fucking done or I'm goint to start saying a ton of shit that I will regret.

First of all let me say @Fig Has a 100 % correct assessment of the situation.
Some of you need to reassess.

Then:
FYI, there are many threads on social media with teachers discussing how remote learning will expose their social justice programming and how to continue the brainwashing without being exposed or detected.

This is another 100 % correct assessment.

I had posted the same sentament in a different thread.
I have had to deal with sjw and libtard teachers trying to lie about and rewrite the second amendment which my boys quickly pulled the bullshit card on in class in front of everyone, I delt with the the God Damn principal.

Open your eyes.
