Rifle Scopes I/R light source

Re: I/R light source

I seriously doubt anything will work, but you could try robbing the IR laser out of a leica or swarovski laser range finder and the beam might diverge enough to spray some light on a target. Probably won't work.

Re: I/R light source

I know 2 guys who used to work at BE Meyers. That defocusing IZLID laser for illumination is supposed to be VERY effective. From the way they put it, the are insanely expensive.

Re: I/R light source

I should clarify my earlier post.

The reason that I didn't take gmblr seriously is because I do not think the PVS-22 is in its prime anywhere close to 1K. The UNS/PVS-22 will only let you get to around 8X or so with your day scope before you want to claw your eye out and the resolution starts getting pretty rough at several hundred yards even with the Gain turned down.

I.R. in the 400-900nm range will definitely give the unit a boost but the unit itself is still limited at longer distances in most atmospheric conditions.

If one was to seriously want to use NV out to 1k, starting life over with a MUNS/PVS-27 will let you use more X on your day scope, give better resolution and will benefit from any IR augmentation better than the 22. Even 27 is stretching to get there with a lot of resolution on body size targets (ie: is that one target or two standing close together?)

Any focusable IR with a shit load of output would help. The PEQ-2 and 4 are good but there won't be much off the shelf that will net you a noticeable change in image at 1K, especially if you are trying to get there with the 22.

My apologies for coming across possibly a little too smart ass. I am by no means an expert.

I am really starting to dislike humble people!

Re: I/R light source

Terry, this is good to know! Looking through a Raptor 6x I could just barely make out a 17"x24" target at 1K. Really it only looked like one pixel of the overall resolution. Playing with a Raptor REALLY made me want some Nightvision of my own. I was figuring I'd save up for a PVS 22, but it sounds like it really won't do what I was hoping.

Besides the MUNS/PVS-27 in front of a daylight scope, is there a dedicated Night vision scope that works better?

Realistically what is your target size we are talking here? There is ONLY a certain amount resolve a NVD can see and hit at distance based on size of your target. With that said, a PVS-27 (MUN's) is going to be best served for increased magnification but once again at that distance what is your target size? Also, an Atilla-200 will get out very close to 1K with it's 150mW illluminator clocked in a bit tight.

Re: I/R light source

Another plus+ on that Atilla 200 . I have seen those and they are badass to say the least. powerful with a one body focus beam and laser unit. Good luck in getting your hands on one.
Victor, are they even available outside Military buys ? Any LE buys for them ?
