A guy next to me at the range yesterday had an AIAW308. I was already in the process of getting one, but handling it, and shooting it really made my mind up. When guys say they are just easy to shoot, I know what they mean. I shot four five shot groups with two kinds of ammo, that were as good as any I've shot with my GAPs and Tac-Ops sticks. The bolt throw, and cycle was amazing. The whole thing just oozed stoutness, to hell and back toughness. I get it now.
I called Jason @ Euro Optic on the way home, and ordered one. Can't wait.

They're different enough, that it wouldn't really be a comparison. I did like the bolt throw better on the AW. It was my first time using an AI stock, so that will take some getting used to it, but I didn't find the stock annoying like some people. One thing that stood out was the trigger. My GAP has the jewell, and when I first shot the AW, that two stage trigger seemed like it took forever. Still, once I was ready for it, it was good. Like I said, after never having shot one before, never having used a butt spike, looking through a Zeiss hunting scope that wasn't focused for me, in mounts that were way too high, I managed to squeeze out some 5 shot groups that were every bit as good as 5 shot groups I've shot with my GAP and Tac-Ops rifles. Two of those groups were using some Hornady hunting loads the gun's owner had, and the other two groups were hand loads I made for my GAP. The rifle shot both very well. It wasn't me, it's just that the gun was easy to shoot. It had a 20" barrel with a brake on it. It seemed loud as hell, but I'm used to shooting my 308's suppressed all the time. What impressed me the most was the stoutness of it. Nothing on that gun said " be careful with me". It just looked a like a f'n freight train. Hard to explain I guess.

Anyways, mine is on order from Euro Optics. I'll do a range report with some AI porn when it gets here. Should be within 2 weeks. I'm just pissed I never shot one earlier, I'd probably own 3 by now.

Great to hear another great AI/AW experience.

Best money I've ever spent on a rifle....always keeps you honest and a LOT of fun to shoot!

Hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

I have a GAP M40A1 (Rem 700 SA) - my best groups are very similar groups out of both (just over .4 MOA). The weak link is me

For me the GAP/AI discussion is going to be about stock ergonomics, the trigger or the action. I'm happy with both but others may feel differently.

Re: I tasted the kool AI-d yesterday

Having shot a number of AI's, I wouldn't say they are more accurate than say a GAP rifle, but they are more than accurate enough. And as you said, tough as nails. When you get yours have a smith make you a 260 or caliber of choice, You will really be blown away then.

Re: I tasted the kool AI-d yesterday

I don't know that I would make the more acurate than a GAP argument but my AIs way beyond make me happy. Just on the AE (not to mention the AW) I can beat the shit out of her and not treat her right and not clean her properly or hardly ever and smack her around and yet still if Im driving her right she will smack it perfectly everytime. I love the bolt although many don't. Congrats and I hope you will love her as much as you do your GAP.

AW308, FDE folder, pic rail, butt spike, 20" plain barrel with brake. I'll order a 260 barrel from GAP soon.

Yea, but I'd have to send it to GAP anyways to be threaded for my can. I'd rather just get it straight from them and have it ready to go.
