My brother is building a varmint rifle, but for the record, he is already heavily invested in the mil/mil philosophy on his other tactical rifles.

A scope for this new build offers some interesting challenges, as he'd like SFP, high-magnification, and a bit more precision for dialing impact points on those small critters at 100-400 meters.

For this specific application, it seems like 1/20 mil clicks would be the ticket. Unfortunately, 1/4 MOA or even 1/8 MOA scopes are out of the question as he's already thinking in mils.

Anyone know if Leupold is still producing their 1/20th mil click models? I also thought Zeiss had a couple models with this feature, but I can't find them.

Other thoughts? Stick with 1/10 mil adjustments or learn MOA?

    Maybe . . . maybe not.

He's shooting a 60g Nosler Ballistic Tip @ 3k. As you can see, there is a lot of vertical drop between standard 1/10 mil clicks. A finer resolution knob could help dial the in-between distances, just like benchrest shooter uses 1/8 MOA clicks to dial in a bulls-eye. This is independent of his skill level.

I understand that this is unusual for SH chat, but is it not logical?

    1/20 mil = about .17" @ 100yds.

Has he shot groups this small? Will more clicks help him if he has?

Besides, while he's endlessly cranking on the turrets like a madman, the varmint will have moved by then anyways..

SFP, 0.05mil clicks, up to 24x power...foots the bill exactly. Here you go:

With an SFP scope it just seems to matter less if you have matching turrets (e.g. mil/mil). The only time that would really help is when you're on your ranging power.

That is an excellent scope. The glass is absolutely phenomenal, .05 mil click and SFP reticle. You can get one for about $1600-1800 from Eurooptics or CameralandNY if you ask them nicely.

Sounds like exactly what you are looking for.

should be a little cheaper... </div></div>

Mine is 1/10 mil adjustments,I was going to buy another one about a month ago,the price has gone way up and they are only in MOA now on the Victory series.

I spoke with Alex at Euro optic a month ago and he said the Zeiss Victory Diavari 6-24X56 is only available in MOA adjustments now,if I want another Mil model,I have to wait for a used one to come in.

Other dealers might have stock they have not sold yet,Alex was out.

Re: I want 1/20 mil clicks (yes, I know)

With 0.1 mils you can be maximum 2.5 cm off (that's about 1") at 500 m. That's plenty accurate, considering that no matter your experience, equipment, field tests, wind probes, LRF, sophisticated ballistic programs, etc. you are likely to be off by a larger amount due to other factors.

    Just, PUHLEEEEZE, <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-size: 17pt">NOT</span></span> "Planet Unicorn"!

But seriously, folks, my dream of precision would be for a FFP scope with a .25-mil-from-center gap at what would be the intersection of the crosshairs, so tiny targets are never obscured by the reticle. That's a half-mil gap from edge to edge. Lets you get away with a fatter reticle for lower light and lower magnification, too.

But instead of 1/20-mil clicks, I would go for holding off a 20th-mil, which would be the thickness of PART of that first hashmark at the half-mil point. IMO, you need useful optical reference points in the reticle.

Even with .05-mil clicks, I believe that spinning the knobs should not be a problem if you are zero'd with resettable knobs. Just read your mil numbers and then stop at the appropriate decimal mark. Works great for me with 1/10th, and I think better in decimals than quarters anyway for some reason.
