I want a stock has better ergonomics than HS Prec

I replaced my .308 varmint tupperware stock with an HS Precision stock from a factory Rem 700 5r. The rifle shoots fine with the HS Precision stock, but it feels awful (to me). It also turned out it feels a lot heavier than I was thinking it would. I don't even like it much shooting off a bench.

In fact, since it was sub MOA rifle with the old stock, I'm thinking of going back. Is there a quality replacement stock that is light and comfortable for walking around and offhand shooting? Maybe the Hogue or B&C? Most McMillans look geared towards rested shooting, but maybe you can correct me if I'm wrong. Heck the HS stock "looked" to me like an offhand shooting design.

Thanks

McRee is a good stock. It's easy to install and allows for detachable magazines. I'm very happy with mine.

After you get the min number of posts, try and do a trade for the HS LTR takeoff stock, it is a bit over 2 lbs, shorter and shoulders well. Now with the standard 26" varmint bbl, your rifle will be a tad muzzle heavy. I had mine cut to 22" and it is much easier to maneuver and lighter. Did not effect accuracy, just a bit of velocity. If you have some coin you can get the Manners T3 http://mannersstocks.com/hunting/

I find hunting style stocks such as the Manners MCS-T/T3 or the McMillan A1-3 to be the most comfortable.

Could someone explain the difference between the MCS-T and the T3? Just by looking the only difference appears to be the wider forend.

This is exactly how I felt when I switched to an HSP. Though my old BC A5 was much heavier overall at 5.5#.

The rifle I have is 22" (20" of barrel, 2" of brake), I was a little reluctant to mention it because it's a vtr "triangle barrel" model and there is a little bit of dislike for them floating in the ether. It's a special order model with 5r rifling (Rem 85506).

The manners looks nice, my barrel is actually pretty lite.
May be a good match.

Definitely look at the Manners T3. My favorite stock they make. Been using one for almost 4 years in tactical matches and it's a great stock from any position.

I too am not a fan of H&S precision stocks. As Rob already pointed out, Manners is a great way to go. Also know that McMillan will inlet any of their stocks for any rifle. What I mean is that when you go to their web page, you'll see certain styles/models listed under a brand of rifle company. So if is listed under Savage, but you would like it for a Remington, you can have one made for the Remington. They do have a big selection to chose from. Hope this help.

Can't speak to the Manners, haven't played with one. However...
If you like the vertical grip and are looking for something a little more 'off hand friendly' I really like the McMillan Gamescout and the A3 Sporter. Both can handle up to a Rem Varmint tube and have a little more drop at heel for stand up/sit down shooting.

If you want that's light and not a chore to carry around, I'd look into a different rifle with a sport profile barrel. A lot of the weight is in the barrel. Obviously it won't be as accurate, but it's always a compromise. I'm willing to bet to some people on here have rifles up towards 16-18lbs. The HSP stock is at 2.6 lbs. To go lighter you would have to look at hunting stocks, and those are mostly profiled for sport barrels.
