Ice Dancing Just Made Me Puke!!!

Okay, so I'm stuck watching Olympic Ice Dancing, and here comes the British and their routine. The guy and the lady are from Scotland, skating for the British, and are portraiting a couple of Canadian cowboys, dancing their entire routine to American Johnny Cash's "I've Been Everywhere" country western song.

From my couch, I could hear Johnny Cash's ears throwing up.

As if this wasn't punishment enough, watching this sterotypical farce, at the end of the routine, the guy dry-humps his female partner, and you guessed it--they are brother and sister.

Any sterotypes left out on this deal? Why didn't they just throw in a trailer and some bass fishing while they were at it?

Not enough punishment, huh? There were then three other ice dancing routines set to country western songs, some even performed by the French, a nation of cowards and flamers, further sullying international relations, no doubt.

Gawd, here's an evening of my life I'll never get back.

Wow, that sounds like an abortion on ice. After the USA/Canada hockey match, I just went to bed. There's nothing they could do ice dancing that would have compared with that hockey game. It was great. I hope you didn't miss that.

Re: Ice Dancing Just Made Me Puke!!!

Wow, sorry to hear that. Was it like watching a train wreck and you couldn't keep yourself from watching or was it some sort of masochist exercise? Yeah the hockey game rocked.

Re: Ice Dancing Just Made Me Puke!!!

By watching the entire ice dancing coverage you have confirmed what many here suspected about your sexual orientation. By summarizing it in detail for the Hide is unsettling. It sounds like you yearn for a spandex jumpsuit and grind partner of your own.

It's OK you don't have to act like you don't like it. The members of Sniper's Hide have adopted a don't ask don't tell policy. This is Sniper's Hide 2010...we welcome diversity.

God has spoken

Shank-man, once again, you leave me (however briefly)..., speechless.

Life, as I know it, has changed...

Go, Shank-man, go!

Re: Ice Dancing Just Made Me Puke!!!

Yeah, my wife is into that ice dancing crap. When she turns that on I go hide in the basement and snoop around the hide. There is nothing that would keep me in front of that screen watching that ice dancing shit for more than 10 seconds.

Re: Ice Dancing Just Made Me Puke!!!

The hockey game was awesome. Looked like Canada was firing pucks from a machine gun that last couple minutes until that empty net goal!

Always a risky business pulling that goal tender!

How are our Canadian Hide brothers holding up today?

Re: Ice Dancing Just Made Me Puke!!!

I am watching it right now (with my wife). Several "pairs" looked like they were reenacting something out of a gynecological training exam video. I'm pretty sure that I would rather be watching the Zamboni guy go around the rink.

Perfectly fine here, buddy. Except for cold/flu symptoms. As to the Olympics, I've very little interest. Hockey, even less.

When they have on tv the things that I want to watch, as opposed to whatever stuff they want us to see, well, then I'll turn it on.

How're you?

Re: Ice Dancing Just Made Me Puke!!!

Well I'm fine Sean. That game was a tough one and could've gone either way. Home game losses, especially in the olympic games, can be a bitter pill, especially with all the pussy sportscaster experts second guessing the coaches, players, game plans, etc.

I haven't watched a whole lot of the last few games (winter or summer) as they have been largely political platforms for NBC, wholly owned by the socialist party in this country and the nauseating promos for their T.V. shows. The love in continues for the ruling party and apparently there is yet another Law and Order series in the works...

Anyway, it was pretty cool to see all those American and Canadian NHL guys playing so well together and opposed to each other. Canada is our brother nation, our closest by far, and nothing will ever come between us!

Re: Ice Dancing Just Made Me Puke!!!

There are only two (2) manly winter Olympic events worthy of watching - biathlon and curling.

Biathlon because it is a sport derived from military tactics developed by the Norwegians during an early (i.e., centuries old) civil war - then expanded to their various Skandic kin.

Curling because you just know that game was invented over several pitchers of beer. Face it - it is chess on ice.

All other events are over too soon to be worth the interruption in the attention span. Perhaps the only other event worth watching would be pairs figure skating, but only from the aspect of the sheer bravery of the female skaters. One must admire a woman who will hurl herself around an ice rink at mind numbing speed, launch herself into the air, and trust an obviously homosexual male to catch her, saving her from certain death. That is courage.

Knuckle-dragging rant off.

Re: Ice Dancing Just Made Me Puke!!!

The ski cross is definitely manly. That is the crazy free-for-all race down the hill 4 at a time over jumps and curves to move on to the next round. Skeleton, luge, and bobsled also take big balls.

Re: Ice Dancing Just Made Me Puke!!!

Ahh yes..., ski cross - new to the Olympics this year. It is exciting, but could be moreso if the course were longer and there were some walls you could slam an opponent into - like NASCAR.

The sliding sports mentioned indeed take a set of large ones or serious cognitive deficiencies. The fact that competition continued following the Georgian's untimely demise reinforces your observation.

Once again LMAO.

Complaint filed against skating commentators
Last Updated: Tuesday, February 23, 2010 | 9:27 AM ET
The Associated Press

A gay rights group has lodged a formal complaint against two French-language broadcasters in Quebec for comments made about American figure skater Johnny Weir.

The Quebec Gay and Lesbian Council formally filed a complaint Monday with a Canadian broadcast monitoring council, demanding a public apology from French-language broadcaster RDS.

One RDS commentator said Weir hurts figure skating's image and another said Weir should be made to take a gender test.

The veteran sportscasters, Claude Mailhot and Alain Goldberg, were commenting on the men's figure skating competition last week at the Olympics.

The remarks were "outrageous" and "homophobic," the Quebec-based advocacy group said in a statement on its website.

The two broadcasters later offered an on-air apology for their comments.
'So inappropriate'

The group had said last week it planned to file a complaint about the matter to the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council, an independent organization created by Canada's English and French private broadcasters to administer on-air standards and monitor the industry.

American Evan Lysacek, the reigning world champion, later won the gold medal in the skating final, edging out Russian Evgeni Plushenko, who took the silver. Weir finished sixth.

Weir has repeatedly avoided questions about his sexual orientation in the past, saying it's no one's business and it has no bearing on what he does as an athlete. He is aware of the comments, agent Tara Modlin said Monday.

"The comment is so inappropriate that we will not even justify it with a response," U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun said.

Australia's Channel Nine has reportedly received complaints from viewers after two of its hosts joked about the masculinity of Weir and other male skaters.

Canada-U.S. hockey most watched sports program in Canadian history
The Globe and Mail
By Marsha Lederman, The Globe and Mail Posted Tuesday, February 23, 2010 12:21 AM ET

VANCOUVER - Canadian fans may not have liked the outcome of Sunday's Canada-U.S. hockey game, but the Olympic broadcaster has something to celebrate: The game has become the most-watched sports program in Canadian history.

Canada's Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium reported an average audience of 10.6 million viewers, surpassing the 2002 Salt Lake City Canada-U.S. gold-medal game's 10.3 million viewers.

In total, 21.5 million people, or nearly two in three Canadians, tuned in for at least part of the match.

"It's a remarkable number, considering two million more viewers watched in Canada than the U.S.," said Keith Pelley, president of the consortium, a conglomerate that includes CTV, which is affiliated with The Globe and Mail.

The opening ceremonies remains the most watched television event in Canadian history with 13.3 million viewers.

The numbers are staggering in the age of fragmented viewing and new media, but University of British Columbia Journalism Professor Alfred Hermida isn't surprised.

"I think in some ways we tend to overestimate the death of old media, because what we're getting is a much more mixed-media ecosystem. There's two things TV's very good at: live events and appointment viewing and it sort of draws people together like that.... You don't want to watch it three hours later, when the result is already out."

Mr. Hermida points out that viewers in the United States are upset with NBC's decision to delay the broadcast of Olympic events. Viewers have been asking online media and radio not to report the results before they have had a chance to watch them on TV.

"That model ... might have worked 30 years ago when you had to wait for the next day's newspaper, but it doesn't work in an era of real-time media."

Mr. Hermida didn't watch the game, but was well aware of the results - thanks to Twitter (and the cheers and moans coming from his neighbours).

I haven't watched any of the Olympics, but if there was a reason to watch ice dancing it was Tanith Belbin...
