Looking at buying this gun for short range hunting. It's a Remington model 7 260 that was made in 1997. Does anybody know what kind of stock came on these guns, factory junk or possible outsourced to b&c or hs precision at that time? I'm assuming they still had the good adjustable trigger at that time also. It's not worth the money if I have to change the stock and trigger to make it usable. This isn't the gun but is identicle.

It is a straight up plastic stock. I own one in 7mm-08, bedded it with acraglass resin/gel and added metal flakes. It hasn't come apart and that was probably fifteen years ago. You will not find a more comfortable tree stand rifle, works great for walking/stalking, too. Even with a scope mines weighs nothing. I'd love to rebarrel and add a high quality light weight stock. Not the most accurate, as the barrel isn't much thicker than a writting pen. It will hold 3/4 moa though.

Thanks NC, I planned on pillar bedding the action and adding a arrow shaft with some bedding to the forend. Also taking the pressure pads out of the forend and free floating the barrel. It will have to shoot a .5" consistently with handloads or I will have to sale it, my ocd will not allow it.

Have one in .260 . I have never really shot it for groups, but it has killed every deer it has ever been pointed at . Very light package for hunting. I would buy another one for my son to use if I could find it .

If it shoots .6" I will get it from ya. Good carrying rifle there. If you shoot 3 shots the barrel will be too hot so don't ask it to keep up with bull barrel tactical rifles. That's not what it was built for.
