I've been looking to get into bolt action rifles for a while but my funds have been used for my H&K toys. Now I want a bolt action more then ever. Been thinking about a custom action. I know there are a lot of custom actions out there but I've been thinking about making one. I have a 3 axis cnc Bridgeport and I believe I have the appropriate CAD file to mill it out. There is a machine shop next to where I work that I believe has a edm to cut the action. I was possibly thinking about doing it out of titanium. The CAD file would have the rail and recoil lug milled into the action. For you guys that did mill would own action. How difficult is it? Another thing, I was thinking about milling out my own bolt but I can not find any dimensions to do it. Have any of you guys made your own bolt? I want to make the action strong enough to shoot 338lapua and 308. To do this would I just have to have to different bolts made and the correct head spacing with there barrels? I'm hoping to start this project shortly.

Why re-invent the wheel? There are a lot of good actions available, and for the cost of materials and time, not to mention the headache, you could work a little more and save up the $$. I don't want to stifle you if you have your mind set on it, just a little bit of reality. If you are serious about it, you may want to purchase a bolt, that will give you a starting point. Also, making a action that would feed reliably with a long action caliber like the 338LM as well as feed a SA round like the 308 will be a challenge as well, but not as much of one if you decide to single feed.

On the other hand, if you have the skills, equipment and the facility to do it, give it a go. Also look into what it takes to get it serialized, keep it legal, CYA

Do you also have access to a lathe? I'd imagine you would need one. Also your tooling costs to just up and make one will probably be pretty high, unless you have them already. Just more to think about.
