I HAVE A REMINGTON 700 SPS TACTICAL .308 THAT I JUST PURCHASED. I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A GOOD START SCOPE TO GO WITH AS THIS WILL BE A PROJECT OF MINE. FOR NOW I HAVE JUST THE STOCK RIFLE ALTHOUGH I AM BUYING A BELL AND CARLSON STOCK FOR IT. I HAVE A 1 PIECE WEAVER RAIL BASE INSTALLED. I PLAN ON USING THIS RIFLE DURING DEER SEASON AND AS WELL ON THE RANGE FOR NOW TRYING UP TO 500YDS. I HAVE NARROWED MY SCOPE OPTIONS DOWN TO 2. A BUSHNELL 3-9X50 ELITE 3200 OR A NIKON 4-12X50 BUCKMASTER. I AM NEW TO SHOOTING DISTANCES AND BOLT ACTION RIFLES. I WOULD LIKE TO START WITH 50 AND MOVE TO 100 AND SO ON SO FORTH. ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Use the search function and turn caps lock off. That is all I have to say. It's been covered, just have to look it up.

I would not recommend a fixed power for a deer rifle, especially one as high as 12X.

There are several good options, the scopes you are looking at are at the lower end of scopes, though they should work well for hunting.

This is asked and covered regularly.

You have already told us what you want to do with the rifle, now you need to set a budget. In the world of optics, you get what you pay for. There are some really decent scopes out there for around 200, but they are very limited in their abilities, resolution, adjustment range etc...

Personally, I would recommend you look at the weaver grand slam tactical 3-10X from midwayusa. This is a very good multi-use scope, with a very good power range for hunting and target use. It offers the benefit of having the adjustments match the subtensions on the reticle.

This scope is frequently on sale for 299 and is well worth that price tag.
